Autoexpress magazine of the UK is reporting that the forthcoming 2.2L upgrade to the S2000 will in fact feature i-VTEC. I am a little surprised, I figured Honda would take the easy road and just bore out the F20C, but I'm not totally bewildered. After all, the F20C is very similar to the K-series except for the i-VTEC.
I'm curious to see how much this upgrade helps the S2000's performance. I'm also wondering where this rumour about an S2200 coupe came from, and whether it is actually true. Either way, this is good news for our beloved Stook.
Check out the article and further discussion on VTEC.NET (http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=112884)

i prefer the traditional DOHC VTEC motors, i love it when you can actually feel vtec kick in. in my friends rsx-s, vtec engagement point is nonexistnat. the cam and timing is always changing at all rpms. i know ivtec can offer better hp gains, but i just love it when i can feel vtec at a specific rpm.

The VTEC kick is something we've grown to love but I'll wave to you when I'm passing you before you VTEC engages.

Ya, I don't disagree.. I'm just happy with what I have. We haven't really seen the full scoop on the new engine and whatever else has changed on the car.

Ewwwww no I haven't. If that is the case I will be organizing a hate mail campaign to Honda. Stay tuned.

I'll believe it when i see it..but I am glad I have my S2000 the way it is...but don't doubt that I-VTEC, maybe Hondata will be able to do something with that engine like they have done witht the K-series....
..and it's good to know that I have 2 egines to choose from if I ever blow my original engine!!
Honda might be doing something even better this time...only time will tell...

I don't see why this is such a big deal. So it has softer suspension and a lower redline. Nothing some aftermarket parts won't fix.
They made the suspension softer for the 02-current, but I didn't see anyone bitching about that. I have faith in Honda, I think the updated S2000 will be a great car. If not I will just have to buy a used S2k.

If this is really the case, why is Honda trying so hard to avoid the performance market in America these days? I mean the new Civic Si and the S2k is all they have. And IMO the new SI is a peice. I guess they have to make money, and the money is in the Pilot, and I guess they thought the money would be in the Element also =\

When have they ever really had more then that. The Prelude? I don't think they are trying to avoid it, I don't think they were ever in it. Look at Toyota, they went form the Supra to the Celica.
Honda has never really had a Sports car(excluding NSX) Honda has always been a company that has focused on the many, not the few(performance minded folks) I think Americans are once again getting back into the "performance car" aka. STi, Lancer, S2000, Crossfire, etc....

honda is trying to steal the pansies who would buy the "tamer" audi TT or bmw z3/z4. honda wants something that a lot of people will buy, not just a selected few(only ethusiasts).

who says you can't feel the vtec transition in the k20a2? lol..maybe that person needs more oil in the car or something...anyways have faith in the S2200...especially since it has i-vtec...would you guys want more low end torque now? I'd be exciting theyre coming w/ i-vtec...look at Hondata and what they did w/ the K20 motors...imagine what they'll be able to do w/ the a 2.2L i-vtec motor....

this is true, i like the way ivtec motors react to aftermarket mods. it reminds of the j30 motor(accord v6) and j32 motors that gain 15-20 whp from new headers.

they went with the 2.2 for more torque in the powerband!!!
It will be nice to have until you get to 6500k
then let the ultra smooth flowing head and high redline do the rest. Trying to get the best of both worlds

I wouldn't call a Z4 a pansies car...it's faster in straightline than ours and also has the handling to boot. So what if it has a ton of amenities. My Dad drives one and it's a great car...it's just a little more "snazzy" than the S2000.
I'm referencing the 3.0L and not the 2.5L that would classify as pansy

With a good driver it is, with the average driver I'd say they're the same. Around a road course my guess is that the S2000 would be faster there too but the Z4 is probably going to have more benign handling and be more n00b friendly.

Say good-bye to the last raw Honda.
Say hello to Monte Carlo blue. (Doesn't make up for the loss)
I don't have a S2000 but when I work on them I love taking them out on "curtiousy test drives
" just to make sure that there's nothing wrong with the car. I might get one soon though. Thank You Scott Honda.
