Default Prelude Type SH

What year the did the current model come in...97? And, when did Type SH come in and did it always come as "manual-only" car? Also, do both of the model Preludes come with VTEC?

Thanks for any replies!

5th gen preludes started in 97. All 97+ preludes have vtec. Pretty sure the SH comes in both manual and sport shift.

Nope, SH is manual only.

I dunno, maybe cuz people don't feel like shifting gears all the time. Its a Prelude man, not a focking Porsche or Ferrari. The difference between SH and SS is minimal.

I guess if you consider a slower quarter time of about 1 second then you have a differnent definition of "minimal" than I do. Everyone who buys an SS prelude ends up bitching because it's too slow and they want a faster car. Trust me I've seen it a million times.

The difference in the quarter times is still less than a whole second. With a few mods, bang, the SS isnt as slow, as you claim it to be. I've blown away some stock SH's on the road with my stock 2001 SS, and modified SH's with my modified SS.

Yeah the SH maybe be less than a second faster in the quarter mile, but you gotta keeping shifting gears, even after bad days at work, an important buisness call, noisy passengers, etc. I'd trade the quarter mile time anyday, for the option to have both automatic and SS. Not to say that I hate manual, cuz I'd take a manual Porsche, Ferrari, BMW anyday over an automatic, but we're talking about PRELUDES.

I've test driven the SH before, and the power difference isn't as much as you claim. Maybe the 2001 SS are better than years past, or maybe i bought a nice SS. Also, I haven't had any problems with my tranny at all, like many others experience. I think people will begin to see, that the 2001 SS isn't bad at all.

I garuntee that it's not much less than a full second. As for shifting gears, I like it. But then again I can't stand auto's. And since I don't have many bad days, I don't talk on the phone when I drive and the only passenger I ever have in my car is my wife I guess that I have no reason to not row the gears myself. Plus I'd rather have the added performance and control that my manual provides.

Yeah it may only be a prelude but who cares, it's what you make of it. I doubt that many people out there cared about civics until people started turning them into drag monsters.

I'm with Gabe on this one... there's just something exciting about shoving the clutch to the floor and throwing it into the next gear. Performance aside, I just like the way driving with a clutch feels. There just seems to be that much more control with a clutch. How do you start in high RPM with a SS? Neutral drop? God I hope not. I used to do neutral drops in my automatic Sentra... I wised up and got a manual in my next car. As far as wanting a manual in a different car, what's it matter if it's a Prelude or not? My track 944 is slower in a straight line than my street Lude so Preludes aren't all THAT slow. Different strokes I guess...

In those cases, that may be driver ability, not the car. In my SH, I've beaten some cars that I shouldn't have business beating on paper, but nevertheless, I got the better end of it. I'm curious to see if the SS tranny can handle a great deal of power (ie: forced induction). I'm also curious how the SS can handle in an autocross.

As for the shifting gears comment, it's hardly a chore for me to shift, even in traffic. The only situation that I wished I had an SS is when I talk on a cell phone...which I do rarely anyways. Even with a passenger, it's second nature for me to shift...I never think about when to shift, I just do.

Though I have never driven an SS, I have driven a CL Type S, which has an SS tranny. Even in "manual" mode, I felt like I wasn't in control of the car. In an autocross or road course, I want to be as "connected" to the road as possible.

Finally, though some people would say, why didn't you get a base wih manual tranny and add an LSD vs. an SH, at the time, I wanted something that gave me decent speed, but handled well, out of the box. I will still stand by my SH, thank you .
