OK, I have no rust on my car, just on my roof. I am having the car painted in a week or so, and I have purchased a new sunroof skin. I dont want this one to rust, what should I do? The factory one is only painted on the top, should I paint both sides?
Also, I was told that I should use 3M black weather stripping anheasive glue to attach the plastic seal , is this true? Thanks, Ryan

Well one of the most obvious way to keep it from rusting is to make sure that is clean and if you get any chips in it take care of them right away.
Another thing to do is periodically check the drain tubes and clean them out so that the water has some place to go and not just sit there.
As for the weather stripping adhesive what plastic seal are you refering to?? If its rubber than yes the 3M will work fine but if its actually plastic that im not to sure of??

Yes, the rubber is what I was refering to.
The thing is that I think it rusts from the back, from condensation. Is this true, and if so, how is this prevented? Thanks

Hmmm? I have mostly seen them rusting right up front? But then again I havent seen many Si sunroofs so I could be wrong?
Im sure if you keep this post at the top you will get better answers than what I have given you if you have any other questions about it!!

to the keeping the drains unclogged. this may cause the rust to start from the bottom of the roof at the top of the drain and spread to the roof.

Thanks, so to keep these clean, would I just spray a hose down the runners to keep them free from debris? Thanks
with mine i checked the ends to try to unclog them ... usually in the fender wells, its been so long i have forgotten exactly where they come out so you may want to check around??? then if you have access to an air hose, use it to blow the debris out the bottom. that always worked pretty good for me.

Shooting compressed air in at the top would probably work the best. You shouldn't have to take the hoses off to do it, but even if you do, all you need to remove to get to them is the headliner - then you can get to them from inside the car.
As far as preventing further rust, I would make sure that whoever is painting the piece uses high-quality primer and sealant, and make sure they get the entire underside of the panel (the part you'd look up at from inside the car).

hi all,
I have a 97 prelude and the sunroof has rust under the rubber seal that outlines the sunroof. there is no other rust on the lude's body. any idea how to get rid of it? any kits out there? Is this a manufacture defect?
The rust causes the power sunroof to not open/close properly at times as the space between the rubber seal and roof is snug to begin with.
Any help is appreciated. Thanx..

Man my sunroof on my 88 SI is rusted bad. There is no way of preventing rust on the sunroof that I know of. Maybe you should get some of those rust prevention spray paints from the autoparts store and try it.
How much did you get your roof skin for???
I thought of plugging it with the carbon one, but that is too expensive and not worth it.
Then I thought of plugging it with lexen/plexiglass but I want the roof since it still works.
Best price I found was like $174 for the skin only, any one know where to get cheaper???
Don't mean to thread jack.......
