ok ok today i was pulling outta work into heavy traffic trying to dodge some cars and when i was at about 6000rpms about to shift into second i hear this squeaking noise really loud from the left side of the car...i slam into second and it quits.....then later on i rev hard out of first and into second and i hear it again...its like a long squeak about 3 seconds long and it does it everytime i get on it out of first and sometimes outta second my friend said that it was my altenator belt is that it? he also said that it could be my ac belt i need this fixed pronto! it scares me like i feel like my engine is about to explode or something.
Most likely a belt, when they get spinning real fast from high revs and theyre loose they squeak. Do a deflection test, take the belts and push down on them in the middle, they shouldnt bend down futher than an inch I believe, may also be diff for each belt. It should be obvious which one it is.
More than likely, your alt/ac/ps should all have a slider bar...loosen that bolt and loosen the bolt that connects to their respective brackets and they should slide. Hold it back as tight as you can and tighten the bolts back. Works great with a 2nd person to hold back whatever one your tightening.
