Default Going with subs in EG hatch - Any ideas for room conservation??

I have decided that I don't want my sub box in the rear hatch anymore, it takes up too much space.

I was thinking I need something else. I thought of a kick panel subwwofer (8 inch) install but hear that the subs will not sound too good there.

Someone else mentioned recessed subs in the back but where??

I also thought about a wheel well one but have not seen any pics of any decent ones.

So does anyone have any good ideas? I don't need anything more
then my two 8 inch subs then some tweeters and midrange (normal ) speakers.

Pics???

What kind of 8's are they and how much air space? A wheel well box is fairly simple and you will only lose a couple inches in depth for space. you could also do some fiberglass enclosures on each side of the hatch area which would save the spare tire. Most 8's won't need much air space so you should be able to let your imagination run wild.

Too much space A shoe box is bigger than a box for an 8 inch sub.

I'm not sure what your hatch spare tire well looks like, but I got two ID8v3's between the bumper and the spare tire in a 00 Civic Si.

By the way, you could probably squeeze at least one of those 8's if not both in an enclosure in the center console. It's another option.

I don't know who told you kick mounted subs would sound bad....if done properly they are great. Steve Head runs a pair of 10" Oz subs in his kicks in a mid 90's civic....

I built that for a guy on this board Eric. He wanted a box that took up no space in his trunk, and that's what I came up with. That kinda held me up a bit b/c of a total fiasco with Sounddomain.com

But look around, I have a new thread with the horns installed!!

I've never tried it myself, but if you know how to fiberglass, it should be fairly easy to build. You could also replace the glovebox.

What kind of 8"s do you have?

The 8's are some OK Phoenix Gold's I don't think I want them right in the dash cuz I may cause a lot of strange dash noises.
