Opinion on This Accord and Help Needed in Buying
Looking to buy a 97 Accord SE with 76k miles for $7600
It's pretty clean but needs new tires
Thoughts on what else I should check besides brakes and CV boots? Timing belt will need to be done at 90k but anything else besides tune up?
Thanks!

Not worth the 7600 In my opinion...My buddy just bought 97 honda EX V6 55k good tire and pay only 7,000....So I think that car worth like 6500...Keep telling the seller to lower the price cause of tire and SE edition...plus it high mile....
Hmm...you want to shoot up that car haa?..get a civic..92-95 if u lucky...they cheaper and lighter for force induction....(turbo,SC,NOS)
Get the integra or civic for good light weight..Accord are ok too but little heaver and they parts cost lots of money to buy + fix mann...

SE is above EX correct?
I dont want to do any performance or other mods to the car
Just using it to commutte to school on the 405
Where did your buddy buy the car? NY? So Cal prices are typically higher

Thats fine with me performance wise
What year did the 94-97 Accords come with keyless entry?
Thats one major feature I need
Finding a 94-97 Accord EX auto with under 90k miles for under 7500 is pretty hard in so cal haha

76K is not high milage for a 6-7 year old car.......if it is like any other typical honda it will easily go to 200K plus....
this is what I would check (all have same importance)
1. CV boots
2. udercarriage
3. does it drive straight?
4. does the steering wheel shimmy?
5. when you turn hard, are there any popping noises or other strange sounds?
6. Does A/C work (it should)
7. Do all accessories work?
8. Any leaks, is engine bay clean?
9. Condition of belts and hoses
10. Does it have any problems with tranny and or accelleration?
11. Title history has salvage title been issued?
this does not cover everything but is a good start........

A decent alarm should create the "keyless entry" option for you. You really should install one here in LA (though the theft factor is definately a few steps below your Type-R - ha). I don't believe the factory keyless entry acted like an alarm in the traditional sense.

Yup.
But that's good for current owners.

To give all the non-LA ppl an example of Accord prices / depreciation factors here in LA:
No running 90-93 accord in decent shape (regardless of miles - i.e. 200k+) sells for less than ~$2000.
90-93 accords are typically ~$2500-4500 w/ 100k miles avg*.
94-97 accords are typically ~$5500-9500 w/ 100k miles avg*. (* damage/salvage not-withstanding)
That's just the way it is here. Remember, there are 33 million ppl total in California w/ most clustered in a 100 mile magalopolis from San Diego to Ventura County. Ppl love Honda / Toyotas here and swear by them. The population is 10% Asian, 32% Latino/Hispanic. Driving down the road you quite honestly see 7/10 cars being imports (japanese/german) with the majority of "domestic vehicles" being SUV's.
