Has anyone polished their wheels?
no link,
but best way i'd suggest doing this is to jack the car up, then have the car run in 1st gear...while you hold sandpaper/grinder to the lip. this will be the easiest manner....or you could sit there for hours going at it with a piece of sandpaper.

i was being serious. there was a post about 2 years ago about doing this, and showing pictures of it being done.
one other thing i will mention, they eventually did mention they bent a piece of metal (aluminum) to fit the side of the lip to hold the sandpaper in place.

I think thats gonna look weird with just a polished lip, but thats just my 2 cents. And sandpaper is not gonna "polish" the lip, its gonna make it look like dull aluminum and you are gonna have to try to polish it afterwards.
Im in the process of completely polishing 2 of my ITR wheels. I used Aircraft paint remover and removed the stock GM paint. It took a couple coats but I was able to remove all the paint with virtually no scraping or rubbing. It removes the paint nice and even, and is actually already polished underneath and just needs some touch up work. Ill post some pics when I get it completed.

i think you should tape up the parts of the rim you don't want polished. buy some aircraft paint remover and apply it along the lip where you want it polished. that aircraft paint remover will work quicker than sanding away the paint. once the paint is off and it's showing it's bare metal, use a high grit to give it a lil more bling
I think that will be too hard to "control" where the paint remover goes and you will get a sloppy look.
Im uploading pics as we speak...
Left, unpolished. Right, very minor finger polish.
What once was gun metal is now silver. No polishing done in this picture, just a few heavy coats of aircraft remover. I probably could have let it sit longer and wouldnt have needed additional coats.
this is the other wheel, which is barely polished with my finger and some turtlewax metal polish

Those rims look pretty good and a little more polish and it will look sweet. Will you keep the rims white with the polished lip?
you dont even need sand paper you can just buff the wheels with mothers, just apply with an electric buffer till a black film shows up then wipe away continue as needed. The cheap and easy way, I applied this to my motorcycle frame ,(a honda with an aluminum frame) and it rocks .

I DID NOT touch the rim with sandpaper, and I dont plan to. There are a couple curb marks on the rim lip but Im just going to clean them up a bit with a dremel. I still think that sandpaper will dull the rim too much and it wont have that "machined" look to it. Just my 2 cents.
Yes, I may just powdercoat these black because I like dark wheels on PY, and polished might look kinda weird on a PY R. I havent decided yet though.

Thanks for the info, guys. I plan to strip the lip and polish it, then powder coat the rest of the rims with a low gloss (not matt) black. Should have pics up in, oh, about 2 months.
