Default Full paint job.....in a can?

This may sound kinda crazy but I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to do a full paint job with just using spray paint cans from a local auto parts shop? I've seen people try this and the car always turns out looking like crap and I think the only people that got it right were Sport Compact Car. They used the can spray method on their Silvia and it looks successful. The brown color looks like crap but I think that if they used a differnt color it'll probably look pretty nice. I suppose SPC took their time and had to work slowly and patiently.
