Any updates on the DC Tour?
Ian Stewart in BS, who was leading by 6 tenths was protested, and disqualified...which is not on the scca website. He was missing a plastic radiator shroud, which in turn would give hotter air to the intake....

I had to cancel on Sunday. With our money situation being really tight right not it would have been smart for me to go to the DC Tour. I'm hoping they have it agian next year when I get back on my feet.

This isn't local competition. A National Tour is the pro equivalent in autocrossing.
These people are not competing for a piece of wood and bragging rights. There is a lot more at stake.
A win is a win and cheating is cheating . . . .

I'd rather lose by a second than win by saying a missing radiator shroud is giving my competition an unfair advantage. Same goes for if you happen to have dry runs while the rest of your competition has wet runs.
It's still a weenie protest. I realize that it IS ILLEGAL, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a weenie protest, and it doesn't change my opinion that there are better ways to deal with such things at our level of racing.

The question is... where do you begin to draw the line?
Where do things begin to become unfair?
Its all or nothin' dude!

It's true...rules are rules. I hope that's the reason for showing your rule book every time you register for a national event.

CONGRATS Mike and Aahj!
Nice placing there in 3rd and 4th respectively. Now AahJ you do know the winner pays for everything the car needs right?
Also congrats to Tad, Chris and Corey in STS. WOW! I thought Chris would kill everyone
What happened to Tony Crea? I was hoping for a trophy spot?

I was in the paddock when the VW lost its wheel. We were really lucky the thing went the direction it did. Had it gone in the direction in which the car was pointed it would have resulted in some serious havoc in the paddock at the bottom of the hill. It did come within 20 feet of a white Yukon spectating from the road, bouncing all the way down it hit the curb went like 30 feet in the air and calmed itself down accross the street going up the hill.
BTW congrats to my co-driver on his 2nd place in DS. He is certainly keeping me on my toes.

Once again, I don't think cheating is "ok", or anything of that sort. My point is still that there were other ways to deal with the situation.

This weekend was odd. Conditions were identical on both days.
Heat 3 had ever so slight rain at the very begining on both days.
Day 1 end of 4th Heat had a BMW broke a radiator and put coolant down on a 1/4 of the course. Big delay and oil dry.
Day 2 again end of 4th heat had a BMW put a rod through the side of his block and putting a lot of oil down on a 1/4 of the course. Bigger dealy (ran out of oil dry) and oil dry.
I din't really hear people complaining about the oil dry effecting grip, but one would think it would.

Not a weenie protest. IMHO.
My question to the people who think it was a weenie protest is - Do you think removing the shroud is a performance advantage? If it is then how can you call it a weenie protest? If its not a performance advantage why did the owner take it off?
I really don't know the two guys running the protested S2K but both of them had bad attitudes and displayed poor autocross etiquette even before the protest. I do know the protesters and both are upstanding autocrossers who do a lot for the sport. I talked to both of them after the protesst and both felt that the shroud removal is a significant perormance advantage and that is the reason for the protest.
On the general subject of protests - if you do not follow the rules then you have no moral ground for a complaint when you are protested. They make you show them your rulebook at registration so we know you have one. Why not read it?

On another subject. DS results justify Shawn's smack talk earlier. He and Vern rule. And are nice guys to boot. Everyone in our class got along great. Grid was really fun and very energized on Sunday. I look forward to competing with all of you in the future!

This is not exactly a gray area here. We are talking about a stock class. You are allowed the following modifications:
Cat back exhaust system.
Drop in air air filters.
Shocks
Front sway bar changes
Wheels of the same size as stock (offset within 1/4" of stock)
Anything beyond that you are open for protest.
I had also heard the particular car in question has some spectulation surrounding it in regards to suspension geometry.

well, to my understanding that s2000 had multiple illegal parts, just the shroud was the easiest, most obvious protest. i did not see these parts firsthand, but was told this info from not one, but a few very credible sources.
Thanks Alan. Vern is scaring me though. 2nd event in a Fwd car and he is getting close to my times. I need to drive faster.
Grid was good fun. Only wish we had a little more room.
I passed Caleb somewhere in WV on the way home. He was driving a MINI???? Guess someone was towing his car for him.

When I was awake and semi-coherent (I was told I passed out 5 minutes after getting into impound on Sunday)... It was a great event!!!
Thanks to everybody in the DC area who made this possible, the site and overall hosting of the Tour on such short notice were truly top notch.
On another note: I'm definitely moving to STX, the Kumho V700's just suck and I just can't do 2+ (dry and wet) sets of Hoo$ier$, especially if we have children.
I'll definitely go down for an ordinary event.
