I just put in my Kirk 4 point a few weeks ago, and really feel a little uneasy about the bars that are now inches from my melon. I'm looking for some padding that will pass tech for auto-x and HPDE days.
I've seen padding on people's cars on the site, and would like to know whats the most affordable quality I can get?
Thanks in Advance,
JP

I think the minimum thickness requirement is 1/2". They can be expensive and you'll get charged tax, but shipping will be cheap and quick, Jeg's.
If this car is will be driven by you on the street without a helmet, I would suggest you get some SFI rated padding.

The SCCA GCR says that you should use SFI 45.1 padding that is at least 1/2" thick. Our CRX w/KIRK 8=point cage has 3/4" in most locations and 1" in the more critical ones near my head. Bought it in 3' lengths with its Velcro attach system from Summit. This stuff is not cheap, but is superior to the other type. If you notice on a number of NASCAR installs they use tie wraps-I would suggest that you have a few on hand but don't go nuts-the Velcro works very well.
get the Kirkey padding thats dense foam. It only covers about half the bar, its more expesive than the thin stuff that goes the whole way around, and dissipates a hit better. I got mine from O/G Racing, in VA
after reading thru and discussing the information within this thread, i would not recommend buying the foam insulation type, but instead get the "denser" stuff. all the information you need is in the bottom of the thread.

EDIT: Just check out the link immediately above -- that's the definitive post.
I got the denser stuff (a la Kirkey) from OG Racing also (www.ogracing.com ). Very easy to install, looks clean on the car, and I like the idea of density in the event something would happen on the street (it kinda hurts b/c it is so dense when you beat your head into it accidently -- which seems like a good thing for a higher impact event
). It was $12 for a stick, my 4pt. took 2.6 sticks (Miata).
