2002 SI EP "Bus" update, for those that care (track times) :long:
Real quick:
Bone stock car with only a set of "cheapo" springs and AEM CAI ran a very slow 1:38's at Charlotte Motor Speedway last fall.
After this past Car Guys event @ Charlotte she managed soild high 1:31's. Actually was able to hold off Will's HYPE RRrrrrr all day, until he got pissed and removed his exhaust for that extra 6-8hp he needed to gently pull me on the straights...
No matter, Hype R YO!!! versus the SI Bus, good match, no matter.
Gearing in the EP for the speedway couldn't get much better, about 100rpm's shy of the redline in 5th entering Nascar 3 and also across the SF line before braking.
Current mods include:
Carbotech 1108's (11K miles on dem)
CTR Rear Sway (really helped the bus from pushing)
DC5-S Front Sway (really helped the bus from pushing)
cheap set of light-weight 15inch wheels (the factorys are heavy as chit, BTW)
set of totally bald RE 730's (free, courtesy of P1 Auto's tyres out in the back lot)
el'cheapo HP Racing header (I mean real cheap)
ever cheaper 2.25inch straight pipe to replace the factory 1.5inch B-pipe
AEM CAI (EP model)
"special" brake fluid (same as I ran all last year in the hatchcrap)
a "little massaging" under the hood
Car still has major "tracking" issues, ask anyone who as seen the POS on track, It'll move a good 1-2 inches within it's suspension bushings under hard load (braking/cornering/etc....) A set of DC5-R bushings will surely fix this.
After some real suspension (I.E. Buddy Clubs) and a real header or even a snail
, she'll easily be in the high 20's range.
Yes, she's still not the one and only "HatchCrap" but it'll have to do for now..........
FYI: The HatchCrapper ran 1:25's on R compounds
P.S. I can't sphell.

i've seen vids from the r expo of the BUS (I think this is the frankstein motor right?) that bus looked good behind my friends hatch with the cali plates. when is the next event in charlotte? my brother lives there i'ld love to road race there. late i can't spell also
Nice write up jack.BTW, the rear suspension does all sorts of ugly things that you see when you follow the bus around the track... and gets both rears up in the air on the curbing
