bird crap took off my paint
so as i was parking my car at home, i notice some bird crap on my hood. I go into the house to get a bounty towel, dabble it in water and wipe off the crap. this was at night time in almost total darkness. in the morning when i went to check out my car i noticed that my paint is severely scratched and a huge chunk of it has come off. beware to everyone and does anyone know the ball park about how much it would cost to fix??
Depending on the size, you should try some touch up paint first...take it to a body shop and get an estimate on how much it will be to fix it; I doubt they will need to repaint the whole thing; if they do take it somewhere else and see if they can repair just that one area. How long did you leave the bird doodie on there for? Unless you left it on the car for a few days in the baking sun, it's nothing a little wax and clay bar won't take out.
thanks for the reply black ls...
im not sure if a little wax and claybar will do the trick. it seems as though the paint has completely come off. do you still think it will work? the size of it is about 2 by 2 inches wide. it probably was baking in the sun, but no more for two days.

Sheesh....2" by 2" is huge. I wouldn't bother with touch up, it will look like crap on such a large area. Sorry, I don't have a qoute on fixing it. I guess worst case scenario would be $250 for the entire panel to be repainted.
If you were at home you wanna try hosing the area down with water.
Bird crap is very gritty and by wiping can scratch the paint.
But I guess I should stop talking $hit now that the damage has already been done.
At this point, try some quality rubbbing compound first, and if you're not
happy with the result......take it to a paint/body shop.

Yeah, 2" x 2" is pretty big. I was thinking something like a normal sized piece of bird ish. What the hell took a dump on your car? A condor that's been eating paint thinner? Don't try to touch it up...for an area that big that's not gonna cut it. You'll probably have to get the whole panel painted...but you should try some industrial strength rubbing compoun first as someone else already mentioned.

thanks for the reply guys. well, the bird doodie looked like gum when i first saw it, it was kinda black and purpleish, like no other bird doodie i have ever seen before. There are no condors indigenous to my area, so i figure i must've been a pigeon that ate a squirrel. Anyways, i took it to the dealer and they got it out by putting some sort of compound on it and buffing it. It didn't look perfect, but when i got home i washed and waxed and it looks presentable. not perfect though. BEWARE GUYS!!
Are you sure it wasn't one of those acid eating Terdactyl's? Always use spay water to remove bird bombs. The bats on this island love using my car for there D-Day carpet bombing runs! I came back from a business trip and didn't recognize my damn car because of the ****! This was sun baked **** too! I soaked my normal wash sponge with a 25% Turtle wax car wash/75% water mixture and I didn't have any problems removing the mounds of Bat bombs from my shitty ride! I didn't have any problems with scratches or discoloration. Having a good coat of wax on the car also helps sometimes...

The reason why the bird crap damages your paint is because since birds don't ****, when they crap their liquid waste goes out along with it, which is called uric ACID. It's not a strong acid, but enough when combined with the sunlight to etch paint over time. That's why if you ever get any bird crap on your car, get it off immediately!
