Please help me! prelude 2.2 vtec 4ws
I have got a 1995 prelude 2.2 vtec with 4ws
I changed the spark plugs on my car a few days ago and the car was running ok afterwards.
I then decided to change the ignition leads, I placed the leads on one by one in the order I took them off the car, I then started the car and it ran ok.
The next day I started the car and it run ok for about 15 seconds then started to chugger and spit, then it stopped - I looked at the leads to find one of them had come off from the distributor cap. after replacing it back on in the same place the car would not restart. and I am unsure what to do next....
....can you please help me!

You are in England huh? What kinda service manual do you have?
By leads I assume you mean spark plug wires, if so then I suggest you check your coil, dist, and wires all of these procedures are in the service manual.
Many 4 gen preludes suffer from bearing failure in the dist. When this happens at first it seems like the timing belt has slipped or something only you dont have any valvetrain damage so the belt must be ok. It sputters and chokes and so on, if the failure hurt the pick-up leads in the dist housing it be bad enough to fail to start entirely.
Just an experience I've had, and since heard the same story a few times.

Hi,
thank you for your advise, I have been told today by a mechanic that he feels it is the distributor that has stopped working, he suggested a complete distributor replacement and getting the parts from a spares/salvage shop not buying one new as it is very expensive in the uk to get Honda parts and numbers are limited.

Glad I could help, I have been away on vacation for a few days or I would have posted this sooner.
Dists in the US are expensive as well, around $400 US (roughly 1000 pounds) that's way too much for a dist.
Now used parts aren't very likely to help you for long either, its the same dist w/ the same faulty bearing. Finding another bearing is the solution if the electronics are OK, the problem is Honda protects their bearing sizes by calling for an unusual I.D. If you want to hear more e-mail me....

something could have happend to your spark plugs to make them not work properly. burning oil or running rich usually does this. fouled plugs usually causes a no start situation or a rough drivability/idle situation.
if that is correct - how would you fix the probelm if the spark plugs fouled and would you need to fix anything else for the engine to work again?
