tire brand switch...
Question for you pros out there...
I'm planning to switch to Kunho's ESTCA 712 UHP 205 50 15..
They have the 98% grip of the RE010s 20% better wet traction better tread wear (look cooler) and are almost 1/3 the cost of the RE 010s
I don't do any track work with my car..(although I drive as aggressive as a hell bat in heat)
IS this a good move???

Kidding aside Tires are a personal issue. Do a search on tires and you will get more opions than you want. Personally I would recommend the AVS Intermediates, if you can still find them. They are ~$66/tire and are great street tires and stick in the rain too. They are out of production so good luck on finding some.
Hey sounds good but I don't think I want tires that aren't in production.
I just want to know if the Kumho's deliver the performance that their high rating suggest.

I have the Kumho 712's, for the price they are outstanding. At the limit grip may not be the same as our stock Bridgestones, but they are almost the same. My only gripe is that they are definitely noisey. Lots of noise when pushed somewhat hard. But, I don't push things to the limit on the street. I only do my extreme driving at autocross where I have the Kumho V700's. The Kumho 712's have good rain traction, also.

You'll hate them at first - they need a thousand or so miles to get scrubbed in really well.

I use Kumho 712's for my 50 mile daily commute. Get's good mileage and gives me enough grip to enjoy the commute. Also, the tread is a plus in the rain. Lastly, the price is a definite plus.
However, I have another set of rims w/ RE010's for the weekend and autoX. It definitely helps to have two sets for two different purposes.

I had the tire noise, However, I found that uping the Tire pressure dropped the noise a good bit. I run them at 40 PSi.
Hey, FBP, let us know about the S-03's. I heard that the O2's were much better dry tire. So I'd like some other thoughts, Thanks

My understanding is that the RE-71's, P700Z's, sp8000's, AVS Int, are all noticbly better tires than the kumho's. The benefits of the kumho are cost, long tire wear and comfort (softer sidewall).
I dunno about the 98% of the traction of the 010's... I'd say more like 80%. Those 010's are supose to stick better than the tires I just mentioned.

If you got money to burn and want to waste some good rubber, go with the A032R's like ITR-585 said. Personally, I would rather not spend $130+ per tire on a tire that I drive on the street. You ever see some of the streets in Chicago? They aren't fit for $50 tires!
I had some RE-730's, but only used them for about 2 weeks til my last R was wrecked. They seemed nice. I think for the money the Kumho's are the best. I would just buy the Kumho's save some money and then invest in an extra set of rims and tires for track use.
If you don't drive on the track and strictly are in to just crusing around for some "spirited driving" I would get something a little nicer.

S-02s are likely to stick better, but I think they will wear faster too, and they do not come in 15"
They will be on by Fri, so I will let you know what I think of them (after a few hundred miles).

I've got S02's on the front of mine. I hope to god they do 15'' or I've made a big mistake. I'll have to go out and check.
The S02's are ok. They seem to be a bit pressure dependant on the integra. If they are a bit out I noticeably feel it in acceleration torque steer on country roads. At least I know when my pressures are out.
Bring back the Yokohama A008R. I remember explaining to a policeman that they were street legal. He asked me where the hell he was supposed to check the tyre (tire) with his tread depth gauge. The A008R had one half of the tyre solid with little holes to denote tread depth. They looked shagged even before you got them on the car. Hot tyre though. The good old days

You're in the UK...no 15" S-02s that are easily available in the US. Same with A520s. The just don't sell them here for some reason. Do we have to ASK for them or what?

I ran the AVS intermediates on my 91 CRX si, great tires. I've also had experience on the Yokohama 008's, and they were indeed fantastic. I've since driven a GSR and my brother's S2000 fitted with Yokohama AO32's, and can say they are just amazing tires. If you have the money to go through tires relatively quickly, then go for it, you won't be dissapointed.
i too recomend the avs i in the 205/50. i have thise now and there are great, and are a close in performance as the re 010. if you got the money go wid the a032r, but for $66 each for the avs you just can't beat that!!
