Default How good are the Greddy GSR turbo kits?

Thinking about going with one for my new daily driver, a 1999 GSR. Looking for mild boost. Not expecting to race it.

Thanks,
Sean

IMO i really like this turbo just to have a turbo...but i wouldn't get it because i like to be realllll fast and have a bigger turbo....the greddy kit is a baby turbo though it can get some high power figures....its street legel cause it has in internal wastegate....u will achive high 13's dependin on ur driving skillz.....u dont' have to boost that high for it too....and the best thing is that its really cheap.....2 grand....but doesn't come with an intercooler if u add that to the mix....another 1k for the larger cool looking greddy one.....thats 3grand.....which is about the price of a revhard or drag kit.....

I have the kit in my 97 GSR and LOVE it. I drive my car everyday and the kit hasn't failed me yet. A lot of people think this kit isn't capable of getting a GSR into the low numbers but I have gone against them all and have shown that this turbo kit can get you into the low 12's without anything done than up the boost. Kit is great and sure you will like it 2.

I doubt that this car's ever gonna see a 1/4 mile track, mostly looking for a way to make the car a little bit more lively on the way to the office.

So what did you have to do to get 12's with the greddy kit .. are you sure that you just boosted the turbo psi up a notch and got into the twelves respond back please.....

to get in the 12's in that kit....u need a pair of good slicks and suspension...and up the boost just a tad 10psi and you got ur self a 12 second "whooping ***" car

Doesn't the greddy turbo max out at like 14psi? Which is gonna be what you need to hit low 12's w/ slicks and the greddy kit in an Integra

well considering it runs off the stock MAP I think it's limited at 12 psi. You could easily get decent numbers by doing a few simple things. remove the restrictor in the filter pipe, make a new downpipe that's bigger, and up the boost to about 10. the manifold design is a tad bit restrictive though. the Recesses for the bolts go way down into the runners and kinda block the flow.

if you are not wanting to spend a lot but want to have a decent kit, get the greddy. i have it on my ls hybrid hatch (the greddy gsr kit) and i am satisfied. i just happened to find a good deal on the kit with 11" intercooler so i got it...i don't regret buying it in any way, i probably would have paid full price now that i know what it can do. and there are always little things you can do to it like gsr w/ boost said...you can take out the restrictor plate in the intake pipe (you can hear the turbo spooling a lot better and it feels better without it), you can upgrade the downpipe, and up the boost a little if you aren't satisfied. all in all, just for a turbo, i would recomend it seriously. though, most people will tell you otherwise.

I deifinitely would reccomend it so far I have had it for 7 months without a problem and best time I pulled with it was a 13.7@102 at 8 psi on drag radials, full interior and tools in the trunk. For a street/strip its perfectly ideal since it spools fast and gives you a good amount hp, but the downside I found to it was highway performance(decent but has room for improvement). I removed the restrictor plate and had a 2.5" downpipe made for the car and noticed a little bit of gain midrange and up top. Within the next few months I will have enough saved up to build the engine with the same turbo. It just seems more effecient and less hassle than a bigger turbo setup.

i think everyone has to remember taht the turbo is not that small. It is the same turbo DSM are guys are running and getting close to 400whp out of. Like the post above said, downpipe is key and well as some type of better fuel management but the turbo itself can give plenty of horsepower. and also bommie, give some educated responses adn represent team flipspeed correctly even thought most dont even know who you are!!!!

I'm interested in the greddy turbo kit for my hybrid civic hatchback also (GSR). I know that greddy doesn't have a kit specifically designed for a civic hybrid.

Any fitment issues with the GSR or Si kits? Which is the better choice for my hybrid?

Thanks.

JLi

Which part is the "restrictor plate"? Curious, and what advantages are there to removing it. I have a SI kit on my em1 and this is the first time i've heard of this.

im pretty sure only the gsr kits have the plate. pop off the filter and look into the pipe. it is not a full diameter in the beginning, it has what looks like a silencer in an exhaust (plate) that really restricts the airflow. i had it on my gsr kit, but i seem to remember that the si kit DID NOT have it.

Why did you decide to use the GSR kit instead of the SI? Just found a good deal?
