My friends claims that his 98 civic is an EX. I have try looking this up because i figured that since the EX, is the highest model(other than Si), it would have power locks and windows. His car does not. Is this possible?

 

pw/pdl/sunroof are standard on ex's
his engine should say d16y8 on the block

since he wont believe me on the power locks/windows because hes too absorbed in the EX thing, where at on the block would it say that?

Does it have a sunroof? Only the EX got sunroof. (not talking about Si)

 

some dx have sunroof.....but ALL ex have power windows, locks........unless he is just talking about the engine which he did a hybrid on.

His does have a power sunroof but it doesnt have power locks/power windows...He knows nothing about the car and bout it from a big dealership here in ohio. The previous owner took off the designation symbol on the back.

 

if it has rolling windows then its a dx. if he doesnt know nothing about his car then its a DX. check the VIN number.....it will tell you. and YES, some DX do have sunroof. I saw some at the dealership with sunroofs....the customers put them on for xtra. but when u buy basic, it doesnt.

 

If it is a DX, what are the specs on the motor?

 

there isn't a si model for the 96-98 civics. and another way to tell if it's an ex or dx or lx, is to see if the moldings and the license plate holder is color matched. if not, it could be a dx or lx. only the ex's have color matched body parts.

 

No DX's or LX's have sunroof's... only EX's. They might have a custom-built sunroof... is it just a moonroof or a moonroof and a sunroof? Moonroof's only go up, not back. Sunroof's go back. LX's also have power windows and locks... check to see if he has tweeters on the doors. If not, it's not an EX. And if the engine doesn't say VTec on it if he says it's still stock, then it's not an EX.

 

the ex's (at least the four door) doesn't have tweeters on the door. and some ex's doesn't have VTEC on the valve cover either. but it is a vtec model. this is the situation with my girlfriend's '98 four door ex

 

the DX motor is a 1.6 liter SOHC non-VTEC. 106hp, redlines 7000, about 27mpg. **** poor slow too.

 

just see if it has a VTEC silenoid, all ex's are VTEC.

 

im kinda sketchy on the newer civs, but could it be an HX and have the vtec-e motor?

I went through a similar thing with a kid i used to work with-He was talking all this smack about having a 200sx SER, when his trunk plaque only said SE.. I got him to open the hood, and he had a plastic valve cover and the wrong engine code, and he still kept saying its an SER.. So finally i just raced him and he shut up
