Default need help please, trying to sand my slipstreams to look like sw388's

I've seen this how-to somewhere, I can't remember if they used like a 150 grit sand paper or used a flat black spray paint... but I'm looking to get that spoon/regamaster texture. My wheels are brand new rota slipstream flat black, but they look glossy...

Anyone have suggestions or links??? I've been searching for an hour or so.

Thanks!

get a can of flat back spray paint and go to work...at first it will still look glossy but when it completely dries it will be perfect

heh....yeah if you're that desperate for the spoon look, then scuff the rim down with a red scotch-brite pad (at most auto-stores), and then just spray like 2 coats of FLAT BLACK paint....you're all set

To get that "look" just buy the real thing, dont even bother sanding and painting new rims, thats just plain stupid IMO. Why waste the elbow grease, just go rub one out and call it a day.

Someone said that its so ghey, that the "NEW" JDM is the "not so" JDM look. It looks JDM but it really isnt, so its SOOOOOO much cooler, cuz i payed SOOOOO much less.

Just my .2c, dont do it just leave them alone, you got 10lb rims for half of what the real deal costs, just be happy with it.

Curious, what would the rim look like if you wetsanded (so there are no scratches) and did without the flat black paint? Wouldn't the color of the wheel be flat, instead of gloss anyway? Or, would it just be a really nasty bare metal color?

Are you sure ya got ROTA slipz or did you get Speedy SPOOM rims because those are glossy and heavier.
Real Spoon/Rega master wheels have a bit of Gun metal/flat black, very hard to duplicate color.

I'm suprised how much negative feedback this guy is getting. Did it ever occur to anybody that he actually LIKED the color of the flat black on the SW-388s? What if the wheels weren't Slipstreams and the guy actually wanted that flat black color on a different wheel? It's not like he's putting the new yellow "Spoon Sports" sticker on the wheel.

Hi heat BBQ super flat and/or Military flat black paint should do the trick nicely.

Haha..then get your door busted in by the Spoon bootleg patrol.

Unless it says "Foon" or "Spork".

i belive the guy used steel wool to get rid of the clear coat. If you paint them with flat black krylon when you get brake dust on the wheels, they will look kinda brownish rather than ash gray like the sw388s.

That's what I'd suggest also. I remember a few guys on HT back in the day using that BBQ flat black on their slipstreams, made them look dry and dirty, like the Spoons
