Why does the 97' ITR runs slowers
Anyone know the technical issue? How many of them were built for the states, like 50 or so?
And is it true that the 97 engines are hand-built, and the 98 and above are just hand polishing?

I beg to differ the 97s are slower....
I just think the people who tested them didn't know how to drive them with respects to 1320 times.
They are all hand assembled. Though I must admit the 97s seem have had better port jobs on the cyl. heads. At AJR, I have had the pleasure of seeing most of the USDM years when the cylinder heads were apart and I must agree that '97 certainly APPEARs to be the cleanest...
but then again I read that appearances are deceiving from the Endyn forums when it comes to port jobs.
My sig is the time I was able to run with my '97R BTW.

Yes, I've seen a Best motoring issue, the one with the "50,000km Refresh" that a 97ITR with just Engine mount and little oem tuning that runs 14.74 side by side with a 98 ITR 0-400m. Although it confuses me that most of other times with BM 0-400 the ITR with other car, they often getting to a 15 sec zone.
Keep in mind Nakaya is the faster driver (well in my eyes anyway) that guy has the craziest shifting style.
I think it would have been more accurate if they showed each car driven by the same driver thus it would cut down a bit on the driver factor.
Besides, if the Best Motoring crew actually felt the 1320 was something significant they should test....I think they should set up the timing equipment to measure all the standard times like 60ft.... 300ft...etc.etc.. to see exactly where the cars are faster/slower with respect to one another instead of "yeah...it has great top end..... or the midrange is intense....." hHahaa

I also believe that the mags are starting to realize that there is a much greater focus of attention on imports now so they need to produce real times. The first time I ever drove an ITR was is 97 right after they came out here in the U.S.A friend of mine was lucky enough to get one.He had the same mods as me before selling it.He also ran the same times almost to the 100th of a sec.I don't think they are any slower.

If you look at Best Motoring "Type R Legend" it said that the 97 were polished by hand and that 98 and up were done by a special machine that was better then hand polished. The machine didn't make mistakes and did a better job polishing deep inside the engine. Also the gearing was changed but I think that was just for JDM. The engine mounts were also changed but that was changed after the 98 year......so 2000 and 01 have different mounts. That is what I got from watching the video.
How do you mean slower? As mentioned before, as for 1/4 mile, mine ran 14.3@96 MPH bone stock and then 14.0@97 MPH with just slicks consistantly. I am convinced it's between break in period issues and driver experience. I've seen some fast 98's too (stock). Now that the 00's are beginning to break in (after 10K miles) they are running stronger now as well. I have 46K miles and think the motor is as strong as ever. My recent and only dyno stock reads 162 whp. How many miles are on yor R now? Maybe it's seen it's days....
