Default Security for the ITR.

With all of the Stories about ITRs getting stolen I would like to share a couple of the things I do/have done to keep it mine. Please list any other ideas, but not about the ninjas, or machine guns or antiaircraft missles your going to shoot at them.

1. No visible alarm flashing lights, let the thief be suprised it has one.
2. When people ask where I'm from I always tell them I'm from a different city
3. When driving, if people are checking the car out I won't go straight home, I'll take the long way.
4. If you have a garage, use it all the time, keep the door closed (duh)
5. When asked about mods, less talk is better, I tell them I/H/E , less parts= less interest in stealing them.
6. Don't take it to the mall, movies..........door dings are bad enough at those places
7. Install the RS door handles w/o lock buttons
8. Hidden fuel cut off switch, and for those with-out back seats, reach back and unplug the pump.
9. Ever vin number on my car is covered with black vinly,(car is black) dash vin plate has a black business card shoved down there. If a cop want to see it/them it real easy to remove, qwik explanation to officer and there cool withit.

Most important thing is use common sense, if you get a bad feeling go with your instinct. Remember, if they want it they will get it.

Later Mattj

I agree,
Only thing I dont agree with is about the alarm. I would rather have them know there's an alarm so they can think if they want to even bother. If they beleive there is no alarm, they will wreck your car and then find out but then you have some damage to deal with. So I would rather show it and if that 1% makes them not wanna do it, better for me!! If not then would have just done it anyway with or without an alarm.
Also, dont get too relaxed with your ride. Most people who get new cars are paranoid only for about 2-3 months. Then they get all lazy and taking it everywhere and thats when it strikes....
Be careful about what you post here and things you do to your car, cause punk *** theieves are on this board too unfortunately. They are probably reading this right now...HEY ********..WHATS UP DICKS....
Anyways..yeah..use common sense and dont brag...

I installed a Clifford Alarm but the best thing I put in was the Boomerang tracking system, like a day after a bough the car.

Unfortunately the Boomerang isn't available in the US...which totally sucks. All they have is LoJack which is OK...but won't track if the car is underground (parking garage) or in a building with a lot of interference. Precisely the reason for Boomerang

In New York State the VIN is printed on the registration sticker on the window ! So, even if you cover the VIN in the lower window, the sticker can be read.

Also, I've heard of someone in NJ getting a ticket because a cop wasn't able to read their VIN (this is just hearsay, so take it as such).

The other stuff is a good idea, I will just add to get all of the stupid stearing wheel, pedal lock devices you can to stop the petty thieves and slow the professionals.

I have a self made tracking system in my ITR. If stolen I can track down the exact location of my car +/- 20 yards. Of course it won't work underground but it can give me a clue as to where the car was before it went underground.

Nonetheless I'm not that concerned about someone breaking into the R and then driving it off. I'm more concerned about someone with a flatbed taking it away. Or someone holding a gun to my head as I get into the car.

I'm getting a Clifford BlackJax (anti-carjack) put in soon. Eventually in a few months I'll put an alarm in.

First of all we are talking about security to prevent thieves from stealing your car from common thieves..We all know if they want your car they will tow it...
I agree with dropspeed on the majority of things in preventing guys from stealing your car in general..It suck to have a type R, my boys was stolen from his firehouse they ripped the fence down and stole his R so much for LoJack..Piece of crap..Heard good things about the alpine tracking system...
I follow the basics of shying away from clubs, movies, and certain malls..but face it they want it they will tow it@! I try not to share too many security measures on the web but consult privately with others (owners, installers) on their setups. However, a quick suggestion numerous backup whistles, unconvential mounting of alarm modules, and extra detail in wiring alarm units, (ex..same color wire mounting ) these basic methods help to read DETER normal thieves not pro's..Hope this helps..

i agree with all of the items you listed.. but then look at this way too.. you dont want to be a cars slave either.. i try not to be even though my car is pimpin me really bad.. broke all the time because of it.. hahahaha

anyhow.. i do whatever i can to prevent theft.. bought all kind of security upgrades and installed a few custom ones.. but if they are really after your car they will have it and there is nothing you can do about it.. it will be gone when you least hoped.. it sucks but thats the bottom line. So i suggest to all to invest in extra insurance.. thats what i did and all of my expensive mods i reported to my insurance so in case something does happen i will be fully compensated for the loss of the car and all the parts with it. You will get the full value of each part no matter how long it has been on the car.

I dunnno if theives carry shifters with them, but you can always take your shift **** off just to slow them down . Or if they don't have a shift ****, they're gonna have one messed up hand trying to steal it.

Eh, not a bad idea but you can still shift without the ****. Everyone says, IF THEY REALLY WANT IT, THEY WILL TAKE IT.
Ok, thats true, let's say that towing the car is NOT a possibility. And let's say you have major security along with custom jobs done on the car. And let's say they dont jack you at gunpoint....
Then and only then.... is the car safe from being stolen?

Shift ***** are optional...i was watching the ALMS race yesterday...they said one of the racers was using vice grips as a shift lever, because the lever came out...how is that? I'm sure a good theif could figure it out.
