Default Thieves: 0 Boomerang: 1

The story:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=536568

Quote from LPD detective : "Thank you sir...your GPS signal gave us the go ahead to issue a warrant and close down the chop-shop operation. 6 other stolen vehicles were recovered in the process and arrests and charges are pending."

My poor R came out OK though. Those bastards didn't get to far before they were caught with their dinks in hand. Basically, they had the seats disassembled, and tail lights and wing off. No body or engine damage though. The police said they loaded the disassembled items back in the car. Some of the items likely got mixed up becuase they are missing...like my HIDs and my rear Mugen strut bar.

But important thing is that some serious *** got busted!

Post pics soon!

hot damn! i'm definitely getting a gps tracking system for my car. the company legalizing my skyline sells a product called GlobalTrack which allows you to not only find out where your car is but to shut off the motor and lock the doors if you'd like.

"officer my car was stolen, it's travelling south on i-15 at milemarker xx. would you like me to disable the vehicle now or wait until an officer has spotted the vehicle on the highway?"

They explained that you can set up the system to notify you on your cell or home phone if your car travels outside a certain mileage radius from your home, or if it's ever started after a certain time of night, etc... The system calls you, and you can shut the car down over the phone, or you can get on the internet and do the same thing in addition to tracking it.

The car was found only 10 or 15 minutes out of town.

So far it's towed to a reputable body shop in town. They are going to repaint the front rear bumpers and replace all the scratched interior panels. The car looks really dirty, but it's not as bad as it seems. All the mechanical stuff is in tact, and judging by the tires, they likely didn't drive it hard. Basically, the car will be better after than I had it before.

More updates as they come! Thanks for your support. Guard your R's! Don't let the thieves win. We're stronger than that!

Basically you have a GPS module installed in a hidden location in the car. You subsribe to a service which tracks your car down if it's stolen. Pretty handy for sure. I just wish I called them earlier because I could have caught them before any damage was done.

No idea how they entered the car. No scratches or anything. Must of had a disabler or maybe a key?

Glad to hear this technology is working. It will only be a matter of time before it is available in the US. I don't think the Boomerang product is here yet.
I looked into it a few months ago and didn't get anywhere.

I doubt a system that allows you to turn the car off remotely will be legalized in the US. Unfortunately, criminalas in the US have rights, and killing the engine while on the road is too dangerous.

Well thats horseshit (all IMO)... how about a system that just cuts engine power to the point where they can still move, just not very quickly? Or how about a system that stalled the motor (and wouldnt restart it) the first time it came to a stop?

I live in Miami, Florida and my father owns a Mistu. Montero. He has this service called Celtrac on it. They can tell you where you car is on there gps and unlock, lock and kill the engine. They can also start the car as well. He's had it for a long time , so i'm guessing it's been in the states for a long time.

Think again, it's already here and being sold.

That's just one of several that I have heard of. Check out the feature list of the "Evolution" product. It is insane what you can do with the system. I am definitely getting one.

I've been thinking about getting one myself, but was wondering if anyone knows if these things can be disabled if the thieve knows that it's on the car -- and how hard it would be to disable the boomarang compared to disabling a regular alarm?
