anyone? i highly doubt it was from install error. i do this every other day. i have never had to investigate anything that does what this tranny is doing.
sounds like the syncro's inside the transmission. If this is not the error, then something is not aligned. Start simple by looking at the linkage. Hope this helps.
if it goes into gear and it pops out 2nd and 4th... bro you have a hefty repair bill ahead of you. the 1-2 synchro hub/sleeves rings, 3-4 synchro hub also and I wouldnt doubt the selector forks are badly worn too. my GSR did that in third and had to replace my 3-4 and that did the trick. used parts, $450 repair on hook-up pricing from an old tranny my friend who is a tech had... find another tranny, I also broke the change peice selector also... hehe

i never bothered to drive the car. we did go for a ride when i finished the tranny swap. seemed fine to him and me. then he calls me sounding like it was something bad. i drove the car around for an hour and seemed perfectly fine to me. he did have a short shifter and i can't stand the way they feel. i can't even drive some cars with those things. shifter feel felt like absolute ****. and the bushing with 12mm's at the end of the rod were really wiggly. tomorrow i am gonna put a stock shifter and some new bushings. thanks for the input x2 and mike
. i am glad i can rebuild a tranny and especially get the casing back together easy now just hope i don't have to do that.

How were the motor mounts? If it moves more than it should combined with the short shifter, it could pull itself out of gear as the motor and trans rotate. What car is it in? If it's a swap, sometimes the shifter rod is not the right length.

good points...the mounts seemed fine. didn't check the rear one closely for cracked rubber. it's in a 95 sedan civic with lsvtec.
though it never "popped out" on me, he managed to make it do that twice within five minutes with him driving after i drove around for an hour. i drove it normal and hard...this kid doesn't know how to drive technically or understands downshifts and upshifts and rpm matching. i don't think it's anything bad. it didn't once pop out of gear on me.
thanks for everyone's input.

since both 2nd and 4th gears are popping out, i would have to say that you bendt selector rod(rod that attaches to the shift linkage with the bitch pin) up while driving in the bitch pin. before you take that tranny off, take a look at the rod on the extended position 1/3/5. if it looks slightly bendt upward, take a wrench and try to bend it back to where it looks straight! this happened to me and my friend on a 00 si tranny, after we finished the install he noticed that the tranny would spit 5th gear out. we went under the car and staighten the rod a bit, problem solved no more gear popping!

thanks for everyone's time and input...i didn't even bother to check and i wasn't given the chance upon purchase to even inspect the case...was in a wreck and there is a good dose of jb weld (no ****) and aluminum weld to try and make a busted case good. and all this is on the bottom of the tranny. wouldn't know till you were under it...no telling what is up inside. i'm kind of dissappointed that this was guaranteed by a good buddy (lost trust and name will remain unstated) that it was legit...wrecked and busted case and who knows what else..."not cool". i noticed it when i was installing it but it was a surprise to me and i didn't want to tell the owner who has gone through three trannies in a month....well he found out when he brought the car to another guy who changed and topped fresh tranny fluid. and install of a stock shifter...the kid found out and that is just not cool. if i would have caught the jb job...i would have opened the case and checked it hard. this stuff makes me look bad. at this point, i have to standby to fix and be prepared for some tranny fuxor...
