Why won't engine manually crank freely?
And don't say 'take out the spark plugs' if that is the best you can think of!
I have a mildly built 98 gsr motor ( JE 9.8:1 / Crower rods / ACL bearings ) and ever since it has had the aftermarket rods, pistons, rings, bearings, etc. it is VERY difficult to turn the motor over manually @ the crank pulley and I need to know what the main possibilities are.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Also, after I initially break it free after sitting it will continue to turn freely if it doesn't sit for a long time. Normal or not?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Brooks,
Check your clearances. If your clearances are fine then your main bores may have some misalignment. What your are describing is what I call stiction. You have to break it loose to turn the crank but onces turning it's free.
Ideally the crank should spin freelly and come to a gradual stop. If you spin it and it abruptly stops this is signs that your mains or crank is not straight.
You may want to have your machine shop check the crank for straightness and the main bores for straightness.
Your making decent power (and heat) so this is more likely to occur.
