Whats up peeps, ive recently totaled my lude and finally have enough to put a nice down payment on a 5th gen or just buy a 4th gen. I would like your honest opinions and since theyre both h22 vtec's which one is a better all around car. I used to have a 4th gen si so i think that the 4th gen are better looking and rarer that the 5th gen. Which one responds to mods better? Which one is faster? top mph? please reply and let me know as i will either get one of the lude or get an integra, Thanks in advance,ed
well IMO i would buy the 4th gen. if you can find one in GOOD condition. don't buy something that someone has already beat up. the 5th gens are slower due to higher emission standards and i don't like the body styling as much as the 4th gens. the only upside to a 5th gen that i can think of will be 1. easier to find one in good condition. 2. slightly better aftermarket and 3. non spaceship like dash.
if you do decide on a 4th gen go for a 94-95. the 96's are obd2 and the 93 center console sucks. just keep in mind that the aftermarket is very limited when it come to the prelude. an integra is so much easier to find parts for, but i'm sure you already know that having owned a h23 prelude.
you should buy whatever you feel most comfortably in, drive all the cars you are considering and make an educated decision.

well mine doesn't have a cup holder. which i think is fairly important in a daily driver but thats just my opinion.

I love the 4th gens!!! However the 5th gen are beautiful cars too... If I was in your shoes I think I'd go for the 5th gen though. Just for the simple fact its newer. The same quality but newer... I'd like to have a silver or blue one with black leather and of course a H22. Take your time and search a lot of places and you'll find the perfect one.
Which one responds to mods better?
4th gen (not 96), unless you do the OBDII workaround on the 96 and above
Which one is faster?
4th gen VTEC in acceleration - shorter gearing and slightly lighter
top mph?
5th gen - longer gearing, slightly more powerful ( 5 to 10hp depending on tranny and year)
i would say if you like a sportier drive, a "zippy" car to drive, the 4th gen. the 5th gen is more of a touring sports coupe compared to the 4th gen which IMO is more the sports car.
in the end though, both cars are very comparable to the other. they aren't different enough to give you a solid suggestion. the 4th gen is better than the 5th gen in some ways, but worse in others and vice versa. take a test drive with both and take it from there.

ive owned both, and i`d say go for the 5th gen. Its overall more practical for me, more space, storage, cupholder blah blah blah. The resale on a 5th gen will be better obviously because its newer. It is more of a touring coupe than the 4th gen like el Presidente said. I had an SI so maybe thats why i like the 5th gen better with the H22 and bigger brakes but my 5th gen feels more "solid" overall than the 4th gen, but that could`ve been because i had a 93 and the mileage was getting up there. In terms of performance the 4th gen may be slightly quicker with mods because of OBD1 and its a tad lighter. Styling is all a matter of opinion but the design on the 5th gen really starts to grow on you. You`ll be happy with either one, but i think in the long run the 5th gen might have an edge.

i agree. and like others are saying, it's not easy finding a 4th gen that's in good condition with decent mileage. Try for the 5thgen

I ahve a 92 Si. The reason why I LOVE it is because it is my track car/ daily driver. I use my 325ci as a nice weather/ going to nice restaurants car.
If the Prelude was my main mode of transportation I would get the 5th gen. Seat 4 much nicer than the 4th gen, has VTEC, easier to find, newer, and more aftermarket upgrades.
I prefer the 4th gen over the 5th gen because it has a more sporty feel, older...so I don't feel as bad running it hard out on the track, gets good gas mileage, and has 4 wheel steering (when it works
), has a good number of choices for aftermarket goodies, lighter, rarer to see, and it is basically a 2 seater so i don't have to drive my friend around all the time.
Oh yeah, I like the 4th Gen dash better than the 5th Gen. Seems like peopleeither really like it or really dislike it. I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't like it when they sit in my car.

Get both dude.
A 5th gen as your daily driver and a 4th gen for the strip/track. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by mdjplay »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Screw it getta 1st gen!! LOL

My ex-gf had a 1st gen and it was a bucket. Manual sunroof, was shaped like a ******* grocery basket, engine sounded like an old woman with whooping cough when she pressed on the gas. The seats did recline back pretty far though so that I could lay down and hide while I was riding in that shitbox.

first of all, the 5th gen is classified as a sports coupe, not a sports car... i don't know about the 4th gen.
well that's all, no time to put the other stuff in... late~

i wouldn't consider the two any different as far as classifiying them, but if we must, i do think the 5th gen is more the touring coupe and the 4th gen more the sports car of the two.

i say a 5th gen just because I have a 97 base, and nearly everyone will ask me "hey, is that your 2000 prelude?" or 2001 lol. It makes me feel right
