screeching noise

I've got a 91 civic hatchback and lately when I'm driving I get this INSANE screeching noise from the front left wheel. At first I thought it was the brakes, but when I brake, the noise goes away!! Does anyone have any thoughts on this?? It is driving me crazy! Thanks!

you need brake pads, that is your sqweal sensors making noise

low tech way to explain it but yeah you need pads

Check your pads first, but if they're not worn down check the pad retaining clips and splash shield on the knuckle. Those could just be scraping the rotor.

It turns out the screeching noise was the distributor failing. Does anyone know why the screech when the distributor melts? Also, I'm going on my 4th distributor in this car. I know that these cars have distributor problems but this is ridiculous. What can I do to help my distributors last longer??? I 've checked the ground and it looks fine. Any help is greatly appreciated.
