Default Anyone know how to look up to make sure a block is not stolen?

Im going to buy a block from a guy in town but I want to make sure its legit first.
Anyone know of a website or a phone number I can call to verify it is in fact legit?

nah, carfax ain't going to help you.

I believe you have to physically take the block down to the police station and have them run it for you (you may want to call befor ehand though)...

and if it IS stolen, they will confiscate it on the spot.

Well, that seems like a gay plan if you already bought it...as much as I hate thieves, I'd rather have a stolen block than NOT have a stolen block I paid for

WORD.

Is there some way to match the block stamp to a VIN, then run that VIN through CarFax?

i'd like to know about this also because my friend got his gsr stolen and about 3 or 4 months after he checked with carfax and it didn't mention anything about his car being stolen....or carfax isn't suppose to show it in the first place? so someone out there can be selling his engine "legally" and have people run the vin# with carfax and it will come out clean??........

You can't call in cause if you call in and the block is stolen, you know your not gonna bring it down to them. You have to take it down there.

See if the guy will let you bring it down there before you buy it if he doesnt you know that something is up. If he does there shouldnt be a problem.
