(the background) Well i finally realized i gotta start doing something with my D16.. i wanted to do the single cam turbo but i no longer want to invest in that. I can get a JDM B16 for about 2000 everything but for some reason i just want to play with the motor in my car ..i mean its only got 75k miles.. I already have an intake (wow)
**i was thinking this setup would be nice: I/H/E .. Camshaft, cam gear, either new intake manifold and throttle or stock bored out mani and throttle ..and a 55 shot of nitrous.. figured id do alright with that ..to those who agree with the setup i ask what cams .. i heard the ZEX cam is great and needs no other upgrades ..ive also heard that the Gude bullfrog cam is great, and Skunk 2's cam finally is out ..(although priced at $400) ..along with either a AEM or Skunk 2 gear .. please help with choices.. thanks alot

 

i emailed skunk2 a few days ago about the cams and they said that the stage 1 d series cam should show about an 8-10 hp increase and that it retails for 530 bucks(but im sure u can find it cheaper) and that the stage 2 isnt out yet. i would love to have the stage 2 cam with the skunk2 intake manifold, but that isnt gonna happen any time soon. i might go crower cam for a while but i hear bad things about them breaking. if you dont wanna upgrade your valvetrain get the zex cam, but if you are thinking about a new intake manifold which has most of its gains at higher rpm's you probably wanna get a more aggressive cam than the zex and new springs/retainers too.

 

Ihave a Crower cam Stage 2. It reqiures a spring/retainer setup though. 550 for both. Your car will lope at idle with this setup.

 

ONE.SIX.SI -how bad does it lope? is it still relatively streetable for a daily driver?? does it do okay if u let it idle for a few minutes at a time?
- JdMCiviCCupE, if you spray a fair amount, your stock clutch might start to slip after a while, so consider that too

 

black eg ..i heard about that stage one cam being out and the 2 isnt yet .. id love to have the skunk 2 manifold and cam also but i think they are way too costly for their gains .. im thinking about getting the Zex or the Gude cam and putting just a D16y8 manifold with an LS throttle

 

you are right about being too costly for the gains that the skunk2 products will give, especially since they recently came out. im not too familiar with the gude cam, but the zex cam and y8 manifold with ls tb all together should cost about as much as just the skunk cam and yield some gains. check out the d series board and seach on the gude cam and whatnot. lotsa good info on that site...
