Racing seats in a CRX...
i was planning on buying one racing seat for the drivers side. My question is, can i use a seatbelt harness? The one that runs over both shoulders? I have heard i need a full rollbar installed, is this true?
I've got a pair of seat in mine, with the harnesses going to the Rear Sturt Tower Bar, like this>>
I made my own sub frames, usgin the stock runners and a length of 1"x1/8th" Cold Drawn Steel Bar and s load of M10 Stainless Steel Bolts with Nylok nuts.

Unless you have a cage that I cant see, your harness and seats are a lot less safe than the stock seats and belts.
Your body will have no way to move if your roof etc. is crushed. With the single shoulder belt you can move downward to the inside of the car. With harness seats and no cage you just get a crushed neck and head.
If you have a cage then there is something besides your body to absorb and stop the force of an impact.
By the way no offense, it looks good but its dangerous.

Definitely looks good, but I sure as wouldn't trust my life to a rear strut bar to hold me in place in case of an accident. I don't see that set up passing any sort of safety regulations anywhere in the US (street or track).

That is quite possibly THE worst design I've ever seen. That is REALLY unsafe man, I hope that thing is just a trailer queen.

Yeah, but those guys don't post anymore, cause they're DEAD.
I ALWAYS wear my belt. Even if I'm driving across the street. I absolutely will not let anyone go in my car without wearing a belt. I won't let anyone go in my car without wearing the belt and the strap; I don't care how fat they are and how uncomfortable it is. Uncomfortable is better than dead.
People that don't wear belts make me MAD!

Stop crying?? Who's crying?? They are just telling it how it is. Fine some people dont where there seatbelt constantly (unlike some I do I actually feel weird NOT wearing it) but that has nothing to do with it, what it has to do with is the fact that how it is IS UNSAFE no matter if you wear it all the time or part of the time its STILL unsafe!!
See most of the people that actually take the time to ask whats the best way to hook them up actually care about their safety if they didnt why ask??

in an accident that strut bar will snap like a dry twig.

Hey crxste,
As a fellow resident of sunny Great Britain I was just wondering if you keep that 'harness setup' on your car when it takes its MOT test or do you resort back to the regular seat belts?
For those of you who want to know what an MOT test is:

The very idea of a person not wearing a seatbelt, bleh I don't even want to think about it.
That bottle probably has more protection than your harness gives.

Being the victim of a recent rollover accident
, and walking away with just scratches on my hand and a bruise from the seatbelt, I would reccommend doing the harnesses the correct way. Also, if your vehicle is daily driven I would keep the stock belts as well. My '99 Si had an autopower cage in it and it survived rolling over twice. The roof of my car was completely crushed against the bar. I was wearing my stock seatbelt and walked away. If you are going to do it do it right.

If you can't jump up and down on it, you can't mount a harness to it.
