Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you are having issues with your 4WS??

I am. My 4WS light comes on about every 5th time I start my car. When it comes on my steering wheel turns to the left about 1/8 of a turn. My car doesn't pull though. Also, when the light is on while I am driving the rear wheels will actually turn while I am going straight causing the car to get a little squirelly.

I know there was a recall for the 4WS sensor but I think it was already performed on my car.

Any ideas?? Comments??

 

yeah my 4ws light stayed on so my wheels were locked and it just stayed on and it was the ecu and honda said it was around 2gs for a new one so i just took it out but my friends got that problem it works and it doesnt work. id for sure have that checked out at honda cuz that might get you in a wreck

 

first thing you should do is check the code for the 4WS. It's done the same way as the CEL. If you don't have a helms I check the code for you. About the wheel turning when the light comes on.... is this when your starting your car? or it's already started and the light comes on then the wheel turns? Because that sounds like someone put regular PS fluid in instead of the Honda type. I had this problem changed it out and it was fine. About the wheels turning while driving... Disable the 4WS ASAP! It should be a fuse under the hood. It sounds to me like your sending unit on the steering rack is your problem. Check the color of your PS fluid and if it is dark or reddish your going to have to change that out for the Honda fluid. PM me the code if you want me to check it since I often lose posts or forget to check them again.

Oh, you know when you start the car...the SRS and 4WS light come on for their test. Well, the SRS light goes out but the 4WS light doesn't.

I was thinking about changing my PS fluid to see if this fixes it.

now that **** sounds scary.....what a nightmare.

 

That happened to me a few times too but on my 93 4WS if it makes a difference. It seems to happen only when its really hot outside. So when i get to where I'm going and let the car cool of and start it back up the light isn't on. Car acts funny at times.

 

Mine stays on for a second or two after I start my car. But after that it goes off. When you get in, turn the key so everything lights up, then wait for the srs light to go off, then start your car.

 

Did any of you 1992 4WS owners get the recall done on it??

There was a recall for 1992 Preludes for the 4WS. The TSB Number was 92037

Ok, I just discovered something. My 4WS light does not come on if I turn off the vent fan AND if I detach my faceplate off my stereo.

It doesn't matter if I side the fan switch to off and have the faceplate on my stereo, or vice versa. The 4WS light does not come one if both are off.

Do you think there is a short somewhere?? Any ideas??

 

my friends 4ws was acting up and he just flipped his car last week and im pretty sure thats what it was cuz he was goin around a turn and his light was on. so im guessing hes back wheels turned on him and put him in the ditch

 

I doubt that had anything to do with it. 99.9% of the time if the light is on the rear wheels are locked center. I love my 4WS. I never get a feeling like the back is coming out from behind me in high speed turns. I think it gives a more "one with the road" feeling. Also makes parking lots a hella lot easier. Only thing I don't like about it is parallel parking. It's a bitch, rear in back up now front in. Doh! now the rears back out. You can't park in small spots with it on. IMO
