pillow mounts on 96+ hatchcrap?
has anyone ever used aftermarket pillow ball mounts on their suspension setup??? i want to upgrade from the crappy stock hats, but don't even know where to begin to look for new replacement pieces....any suggestions?

that's fine...i was looking at using a 60mm ID spring anyways to upgrade and get the spring rates i want. that means that the pillow mount accepts a 60mm ID spring only, right?

it's a koni sport coilover setup (pt#5006-1120). i wanted to upgrade to a better spring rate, but koni offers no upgrades. i then started looking at h&r 60mmID race springs. they are all completely custom, which is fine and dandy, but i would have no way to properly seat the spring on the stock hat. it would be waay to small. that is my dilemma.
the only consolation is that koni does make a perch adapter that would hold a 2.5" spring ....
my setup looks like this...

will the koni (lower) spring perch hold a 60mm spring? I dont think it will.... the GC mounts however are anodizzized w/ a poly 'cup' to locate the spring on the upper side. They also give you about 3/4" more shock travel.

koni said the springs on my setup were 60 mm ID, and they are definetly thinner at the bottom---progressives.

i'd love that extra 3/4 in, and they're relatively cheap in comparison with others i've seen. just thought maybe if i used an aftermarket pillow monut, i'd be able to use a 60mm spring. either that or check with koni on they're adapter kit (in the process), but then i'll still have the stock mounts. i just want the pillows, haha.
let me know what you think...

well if a 60mm spring will fit on the perch, that is an option - but i'd rather use 2.5" ID springs, since you can get those easily from Eibach/Hypercoil, unless you have a source for $50/ea 60mm ID springs.
very true. i think h&r's (the only one i've seen or looked at so far...were around 75-90 buck per spring!!!!! i guess the adapter piece from koni (10bucks shipped they said), and maybe the GC upper mounts are the best way to do what i want.
i didn't realize eibach springs were soo cheap. (50/each) or was that the hypercoil?

sorry, it sits on the koni perch to widen it out a little bit. the guy who explained it to me siad to think of it as the rubber isolater from the stock hat, but on the bottom. this way i could safely run a 2.5" spring. sounds ok to me.

what adapter piece do you need? I think i got lost on that somewhere...</TD></TR></TABLE>
trust me, me too. i'm trying really hard not to sound like a total ignoramus about this stuff. getting my feet wetter at the moment.

would it be possible to run a GC perch on those sleeves? I bet they could be had cheap, and along w/ the upper mounts would be a pretty good solution....
i'm not sure about that>>>>if you look at GC's website, they have a koni adapter kit or spacer, which will correctly mount the GC sleeve on a koni/bilstein shock. so i'm thinking it wouldn't work, not to mention if the thread pitch is the same....
i'm hoping to find out from koni that their "perch kit" (...we'll call it) will do what i need it to, just waiting on another email or two.
do you have a link handy for hypercoil, i'd like to check them out?

IM 'kingrat' he is a hypercoil distributor.
You could also just buy the GC sleeve kit, they're made specifically for koni's now and dont require an adaptor, and get the springs with it.

you have to buy the GC coilover kit+koni adapters...... and at that point i'd be buying a coil-over sleeve for an all ready threaded shock body. i SHOULD just buy some buddy clubs, but i'm trying to be as cost efficient as possible.

You cant remove the sleeve on the koni shocks? If not... then i'd go with whatever adaptor kit koni says is neccesary to install.
The sleeve that GC now sells for konis fits directly on the little circlip.

it turns out that koni made perch adapter WILL do what i need it to do, so it looks like i'm going to go that route. any suggestions on spring length? right now, even with the car off the ground, the spring still would need to be compressed to make height adjustments.

would that enable me to adjust ride height by simply jacking up each side of the car?
