Default Going to a high FD, got a question...

I have the JDM ITR tranny right now w/ the 4.785 FD....

And I want to goto a 4.9 or maybe even 5.1, my car topping out @ 120 wont be an issue (or is it even less w/ a 5.1?) as I'll never be trapping that high in this car anyway, and I don't road race, I keep it to auto-x. Anyway, my question is I see al these FD kits w/ the JDM 1st gear included. Are there any kits w/ just the FD? And more importantly my JDM 1st and the one included in the kit are the same right?

If (and i assume they are) the same 1st gears, can I just give my friend w/ a USDM ITR tranny the 1st that comes w/ the kit and the new FD? Help a n00b out.

Oh and what FD do you guys suggest?

1) Yes they should be the same
2) You are going to have to replace the countershaft so you minus well put the new gear
3) Give your budy your old first, countershaft and FD and he'll be happy

As for FD, I say ATS. 5.1 i think would be way to short. Oh and my car with ATS tops out at 146mph, is JDM fifth gear different?

By give I meant sell ... As for the top speeds I was just re-mouthing rumors I heard, I've never done the math myself...Why do I need to replace my countershaft?

Number of teeth on the ATS counter shafter are different then the JDM countershaft.

Craig, I thought ATS 4.9 with USDM R 5th topped out at 137 mph?

I'm pretty sure you are correct from what I remember reading...

This may have been off of his speedometer...which may be wrong...

Craig?

I've seen 146 on my speedo, but everybody knows its off. I think with 205 50/15 the top speed is like 137 or 138 like stated. But does it really matter?

Leo at JDM Spec has good prices. Also check with P1, IPS Racing, R & D motorsports. You'll be happy with the ATS I also thought the car tops out at 137 with ATS. It's hard to tell when you are reading kilometers

Or maybe Craig has that dual action extra NOS button that makes him go 146.

Yes he is at a great price. I actually bought my ATS fd off of ChargedSi99 (arman), and he even gave me a hand to put it in. Very Honest seller.

That's a stock ITR tach.

That means he has a good 700 more rpm before fuel cut.

Bah, he wasn't drinking for at LEAST 15 minutes before he did that.

Nah, craig doesn't drink and drive on trips unlike some of those NC kids...

Edit, And I know you weren't just talking about him driving at high speed, Mr. I-Like-TopSpeed-Runs-On-Closed-Bridges.

The Cusco Final Drive is for a 96 Spec JDM ITR Transmission which is the same specs as a USDM ITR tranny, so the Cusco Final Drive does not need the JDM first gear if you are using a US Spec ITR Transmission. So since you are using JDM transmission this is probably not the FD for you unless you want to swap first gear sets with your friend. As I understand, the gear that you will recieve with a set like the ATS FD is the same as the gear in your car, as far as teeth count goes, but I don't know if it's an OEM gear though.

What final drive you get is up to you and more depends on your application, you say that you like to AutoX so I'm sure that you will be happy with an ATS, Cusco etc.

It is a OEM Honda gear. comes in OEM Honda packaging. The reason why you need to use the JDM gear is because of the shaft differences, and the inner part of the gear where the shaft goes.
