Labour costs installing JDM 4.785 FD ?
a question for anyone who has the JDM fd installed in your car: If you had it installed by a professional, how many hours of labour were you charged for? If you installed it yourself, how long did it take you? I've been asking around Edmonton and the labour costs being quoted to me sound pretty high, i guess since none of these places have done this very often, or at all.

Willard is right about that; friend got a mechanic from Basch in Arizona (they do a lot with NSX's) to do it for a case of beer. Just make sure they save the case for after the install.

Don't tempt me to drive down there with a box of Honda parts and a case of beer.
Or are you still having nightmares about FDs.

Is that 5-6 hours of labour for the whole job? Removing tranny and everything? or just opening up the tranny and changing the FD and 1st gear? Just curious because i'm getting labour quotes of between $700-$1000 to do the whole job, which is ridiculous, i think. It seems pretty much no one has done this around here. The tuning shop i deal with says he knows a guy who did it on his car, but he's not sure if the guy will agree to help us do it ourselves, and he doesn't feel comfortable doing it without someone with experience, nor do i.

I hope so.
I did 3 FD's in ~7 hours (with a lunch break) but the trannys were out of the car.

Run away!
Go somewhere that has at least done it a few times.

Yeah, that was one of the options that we discussed at the tuning shop. I called my Acura dealer and they could only quote me a labour price to rebuild the tranny, which was 7 hours with tranny already removed = $5-$600 still, but i don't really want to take it to someone else unless they've done it before because if they screw something up i'm gonna have a hell of a time trying to get a new tranny and new fd out of them. Man why does Edmonton suck so bad ? I'm gonna look around some more to see if anyone has experience with this around here, but i doubt it. It sucks living in Hicksville

Don't think there is a place around here that has done it at all, that's why i was thinking dealership, at least if they f*#k it up they'll replace what they break.

Cause Edmonchuck is red-neck territory - the sport compact scene is v. small there. Now if you're talking hockey and pickup trucks - Edmonton is a great place.
Try looking around in Calgary - the scene is bigger there.
