Anyone with Kumho Ecsta Mx? - Please read inside..
They offer "W" and "Y" ratings - which one did you get? Y has 35psi max rating, I run up to 38psi cold sometimes, sometimes up to 41-44psi (not cold, after driving). W has 51psi max rating, but i can't find max. load rating on that tire..
Also, anyone knows if they're wider than s-03's. Do they have softer sidewall than s-03s?

I hear there is really only the "W' rating, that the "Y" that shows up on TireRacks site is a mistake, I cant remember why though.
Whats even more strange is I ordered the "W" rated, but I got "Z" rated! I dunno...

Huh?!

Nice how they put snow tires in there too.
Looks like a few 225/45/16s are available in Y rating too.
Y rating is stupid fast anyway.

thanks, looks like they have a misprint on tirerack... i'm trying to decide if its worth saving $200 to get Ecsta MX over S-03's..
I just ordered some MX in the W rating from Tire Rack. The W is for speeds up to 168 and Y is up to 186. If you're not going to go that fast in your R then just get the W. They said that the Y rated tires aren't in yet so W is your only choice right now. They've gotten some good feedback on Tire Rack when compared to the S-03's. I have S-03's on my car right now and they're great tires. We'll see how the MX's do...
According to the Kumho website, all Kumho Ecsta MX tires are Y rated. You can look at their specs here.
That 35 psi max pressure sounds wrong - sounds like a typo on the Tire Rack website. (You'll note that the same chart shows the max pressure for the 235/35YR19 size is 515 psi.)

Must be wrong. My 205/50/15 azenis have max pressure of 51 psi
Albino Dragon has MX's and he likes them a lot.

What do you mean? I thought V=<149mph, Z=149+ etc
Here is a pic of my "Z-rated" MX's.

Oh ok, I see what you mean now. I did not know they added the suffix to the end of the load rating (86W in the pic) to indicate the speed rating. Guess Im too old school y0!
Thanks for clearing that up for me.
from tire rack:
When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest speed rating that would ever be required. Since that time the automotive industry has found it necessary to add W- and Y-speed ratings (indicated in the tire’s service description) to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high, top speed capabilities.
P225/50ZR16 - 149+mph
P225/50ZR16 91W - 168mph
P225/50ZR16 91Y - 186mph
Good to know that my tires can safely handle my R up to 168mph

From talking to someone who has driven on Azeins and Khumo MX's on a WRX, he seems to think that the sidewall of the MX's is softer than the Azeins, however the MX's seem to hold not get gresy when they get heated or over heated.
