Alternator belt, engine swappers please help
I have a H22A1 which originally had air conditioning, but is going to be run without. I bought the "non-AC" alternator belt only to discover it is about 1" too long, and has 5 ribs instead of the six needed. It doesn't make sense to change the pullies, so I'm searching for the proper belt.
What alternator belt do you use?

I'm trying to figure it out myself, if I can figure out how Gates numbers their belts. For example, the wrong belt I have is K050375. I believe the K050 mean 5 ribs, so that's easy enough. The "375" is length I think, but I don't understand the units. The one I have says it's 38.25" or 970mm. Neither seems to equate to the "375. I guess I could take back the wrong one and take a guess for what the right one should be... something like K060360 maybe...
the 5 or 6 at the beginning of the code is for the number of ribs and the last three digits are length in inches. So ??6??375 should be a 37.5" 6 groove. that's the way it's suppose to work anyway.
Thanks, yes that seems to be how their part number breaks out, though I still don't know why a 38.25" belt is called a "375". Close enough I 'spose.
You need a 36K6 or 37K6 belt.
Part No. 25-060370 from NAPA Auto parts
That means it has 6 teeth and is 36-37" long.

One or both of you wins the prize. The 375 is a little too long, and I found out the hard way the 355 is a little too short, so it's somewhere in between... I thought sure the 355 would be it... since they seem to measure circumference, and I needed one about 1" shorter *when folded flat* I though sure I should get one with a 2" shorter circumference. Nope. I'll get it right tomorrow....
Thanks guys

Hmm, I'm not sure what the 375 and such you are referring to.
But I do not have P/S or A/C on my H22 and running the 36K6 right now.

or if your not running pullies on the power steering and alt. you can use a belt from a 94-97 accord dx w/o ac and it fits perfectly, that's what i did

050375 is the recommended belt size for a "non-AC" car, per NAPA... except that my car *used* to have A/C, hence the trouble.

Ok, so you currently do not have A/C and have removed the compressor, correct?

Yeah everyone seems to know this stuff except me, who always figures stuff out the hard way. But, now I know...

Ohh well, just thought Id help out.

Well I don't know what's with my setup, but cranking the tightening screw all the way in until it bottoms will not fully tighten the 050375 belt. Looks like the one you recommended, the 060365 is the ticket.

Sorry, I fuked up. No, on the K050375. Yes, on the K050365..

But why a 5-rib? When I installed the 5-rib, it didn't fill the full width of the pulley. I confirmed that the A/C belt is 6-rib, so it seems like a 060365 should be used. Guess I find out tonight either way.
hey sorry to bring this post back from the dead - but i'm having similar issues at the moment - My car was originally a 4th gen h23a SI, then i swapped in a jdm h22a, I was having squeaking belt issues - so I tightened the belts up the other day, only to find out today that i must have overtightened (hey the squeak was gone at long last) because the side of the belt is starting to look a lil chewed (altho 5 ribs are still visible on the belt itself) - now looking down at the underdrive pulley and the alternator i can see one rib free (as in 6 ribs total with the belt covering only 5), while the a/c on the other hand appears to be 5 rib? - I loosened the belt (mid range between where it was before and where it was when too tight), and drove to get another belt with fingers crossed, I got a belt with the exact same part number as the one that is on the car currently (a dayco 5060410) - only it appears to have 6 ribs - i'm wondering how the shop that did my swap shoehorned that belt to work with my old A/C - which i assume since it is from an SI is 5 rib?
(bastards)... now i don't mind running without a/c (until i find the right pulley) because mine currently doesn't work anyways - so is it that K050365 that i need to bypass the a/c for now? any help appreciated - and someone correct me if i'm wrong and the a/c from an Si is 6 rib (cuz i'm just talking from looking at it with another belt in the way.

also - can i just swap the 6 rib pulley from a vtec a/c compressor onto my si compressor? or are they different compressors/require different mounting of the pulley?
