Those who are looking for weekend dates at Grattan may wish to consider joining BMW CCA. The Windy City Chapter will have a two-day driver's school there September 6-7, and if that isn't enough for you, the Motor City Chapter will be there October 4-5. Once you are a member of BMW CCA, you can participate in any driver's school held by any chapter - and that's a lot of schools, all over the country.

Grattan is a great track, a veritable roller coaster, with banking (on camber and off camber), blind turns, and FUN! It is one of my four favorite tracks out of the 20 that I've driven.

Grattan Tip: Bring your lunch, or go to the Burger King 6 miles east of the track at lunchtime, because the food at the lunch counter there is... well, you can imagine why I'm saying this.

Anyone going to the September Windy City BMW school may be assigned a certain instructor with a PY ITR, as illustrated in this photo taken at last year's Windy City BMW school at Grattan:

Some events are listed at http://www.trackschedule.com/sched.html

Since you're in Chicago, here are some of the closest tracks to home, with July weekend dates shown; events are HPDE unless otherwise noted:

Road America
July 12-13 Midwest Council (race)

GingerMan
July 4-6 SE Michigan PCA (race)
July 19-20 NASA
July 26-27 Motor City BMW CCA

Putnam Park
July 11-13 AUTOSPORT OUTFITTERS DRIVING SCHOOL
July 16-20 SKIP BARBER RACE SERIES
July 26-27 MID OHIO PORSCHE CLUB DRIVING SCHOOL (CAR)

Blackhawk Farms
July 26-27 Midwest Council (race)

For whatever reason, I think there tend to be more HPDE events in September-October than in July-August.

The application for this school is now available. I have it in hard copy, so if you would like it, IM me with your fax number and I will fax it to you.

It says, "If you plan to attend, mail your application in right away. The participants will be picked from BMW CCA members first, then non members. Deadline is August 1st or until the school is full. Don't hesitate."

Cost for the two-day school is $285 for BMW CCA members, $335 for non-members.
