what is a OBDO and OBD1
im new to the import world im learnig as i go i have learned alot from this site, i kinda feel stupid but i would feel even stupider if i did not know later down the path. what exactly is the OBDO and the OBD1 and what do they do thanks for the help
OBD- stands for On Board Diagnostics. THe EPA started setting standards for emissions on automobiles and this is where OBD came into play.
OBD0 is really pre-OBD...meaning that OBD0 doesn't actually exist. Before standards were set some cars had computers that didn't have to "meet" emission standards and people have labeled them OBD0.
When EPA set standards they created the OBD1 which is basically a program in part of the ECU that alerts the driver with a check engine light if an emissions part has failed, is having a problem or another sensor has bad readings.
In this forum everyone is switching from OBD0 to OBD1 computers because they are easier to tune. In reality there isn't much offered for the OBD0 ecu's, so that is the main reason for the switch. OBD1's are more readily avilable and everyone offeres a chip or fully tuneble ECU's.
did I forget anything?...oh yah OBD2 sucks because it is really hard to hack and much easier to switch to OBD1

Just to add my 2 cents:
Not sure about other makes of cars but, for
+
all models in the US at least:
OBD0 or non-OBD: 1991 and earlier
OBD1:1992 - 1994 or 1995, I forget which.
OBDII:1995 or 1996 - 2000, I think
OBDIIB: 2000 - present
If youre really interested double check the change-over years
I can't remember off the top of my head.

easy to remember cause it corresponds with the 5th to 6th generation civic changeover.

Davep is correct.
I have 1 of each, 91 teg is OBD0
B17 from a 93 GSR OBD1

I'm 99% sure, no pun intended, that:
ALL '92-'95
+
were OBD1. It didn't matter what model or trim level or even which country it was sold in or which engine it came with or whether it was
OR
ALL '92-95's are OBD1
