quick AC removal question
so i went to put the ac belt back on today and couldn't figure out how to tighten it, then i realized that i must be missing a piece needed to tighten it, so instead of buying a new piece i am just going to take it out all together. my question is my manual says that its filled with 134a "enviormentally safe" gas, so can i just vent it out on my own or do i still need to get it done at a dealership or something? oh and to make sure i really am missing a piece, how do you tension the belt?
tnx
tnx
I'm not 100% on this, but usually there is an adjustable tensioning arm that has a pulley on it. There is also the posibility that the ac compressor itself pivots to adjust tension. I hope that this will help to some degree. I'm at work right now so I can't run out to my car to check. If you are still having problems with this, then you can IM me and I'll check it when I get home. Good Luck!
hey thanks for the offer, i do remember that when i pulled the belt off something looked pretty messed up, there was something bent and it looked like something was missing, so maybe the pully was missing all along. im pretty sure that your right as it seems there is no way for the ac compressor can pivot as its bolted securely to the block.
any more thoughts on draining the 134a cooling angent? im pretty sure its not freon as my helms says its enviormentally friendly and i thought freon was not. its says only 94+ cars came with the 134a, so maybe its new and contains no cfcs or something.
