Fuel line replacement fun
Hey all, this is my first post here and im hopin maybe some of you can help me out with replacing my fuel line.
The problem is is that its a one piece steel line that goes from the gas tank to the fuel filter and its gonna be hard to get in place because of this bracket and stuff covering it that is in the way. Heres a pic: http://www.auctionpix.co.uk/users/cph269929.jpg and a different angle: http://www.auctionpix.co.uk/users/ess269930.jpg
You must copy and paste these url's into your address bar for it to work.
As you can see there is this plastic covering with a metal bracket covering it. This bracket is bolted or something to the car but i am not able to get off the nut because it is rounded or something, no socket will fit it. This is why i am planning on grinding the bolt down and drilling it out unless anyone can tell me how to get it out the right way. I measured where it should be and i pulled up the carpet and i can not find anyway to access the bolts head. Now once I get this plastic covering off it will still be hard to remove and replace the fuel line because what looks like suspension components are in the way. Can anyone tell me if it will be safe to unbolt these? The car is supported by jack stands so there is no weight on the wheels.
Thanks for your time.

Ok i got all the brackets off but it is still way to cramped to pull out the old fuel line and putting in the new one. i think that if i unbolt those components i ahve highlighted in green here: http://www.auctionpix.co.uk/users/cph269929.jpg

Can anyone identify what that is and if it is safe to unbolt with the car on jackstands? i think it is part of the suspension. If a different angle would help please say so. thanks.

That fuel line is such a pain. It was a pain getting it off and I was just cutting it everywhere. The problem bend is where it goes over the rear cross member. There is a nasty bend that goes up,down, up that makes it almost impossible to remove without dropping the cross member.
Yea i took bolt cutters to the bitch. i figured out that it was my lower control arm bushing clamp dealie. i dont know why i couldnt figure it out before i found it both in my helms and haynes manuals, i guess im just dumb sumtimes haha. Anyways whats the cross member? can u hlep me out and tell me what to unbolt? tomorrow im unbolting the lower control arm and try to fit it thru.
btw, that one long plastic bracket thing, i hacked, choppd, and basically destroyed it haha. its 10$ for replacement and im guesing its to cut down on vibration, did u put that back on when u replaced yur fuel line?
ps. my grammar sucks... hope u can read my sentence structure, im a lil tired

It was easy for me when I put it back in because I was using -8 braided line. IT was able to make the bends over the crossmember. The cross member is the black beam looking member that is underneath the intake manifold/goes right to left...from looking underneath, the lines go over it. I am not 100% sure this is the way to do it, but I am almost positive. IF you have the helms for your car, I couldnt find where it gives instructions about removal, but it shows a pic of the cross member and what bolts to remove to get it out.

sorry to bring the thread up again but if anyone else has the pleasure of replacing their fuel line on a 5th gen like mine i thot this info would be useful.
blown your helms must be for a different gen b/c mine (5th gen) has nothing about the cross member nor does it have a page 20-119. I found what you are probably talking about, i guess they are calling it sumthing different in mine, the sub-frame. thats on page 20-95 for you 5th gen helms owners. I am now in the process of taking this off, thank god i have an impact wrench
. you have to disconnect the control arms, steering gear, and some other bolts holding it up, pretty self explanitory, good luck to anyone tackling this in the future
