Car and Driver takes another victim - this time Toronto Star writer

Claims include:
- RSX faster than Type-R
- RSX handles better than Type-R
However, there is no mention of any kind of testing to confirm this, except to say it "feel better around a corner". No mention of how the speed test was conducted, only that "it's better off the line". Curiously, there is a small sentance at the END of the article that the Type-R is "marginally faster" but ofcourse, it's "less comfortable".
Sigh, anyone have a spare clue?

If they promoted a car as being better that wasn't sold anymore they wouldn't get any of those advertising dollars from Acura. That probably has something to do with it.
I read the T.O. Star article today. You can't blame them entirely for promoting the new RSX Type S since the ITR is no longer available.
What I didn't agree on in the article was that the RSX downs was it's high driving position and they said the car wasa less focussed. Well the high driving position fit's it's purpose == a sporty car for the masses, and the comment about less focussed.. NOT TRUE! It hits the Acura mark directly == a refined, sporty car with excellent performance and is an evolutionary step of the Integra model. Very Focussed.
The T.O. Star writer did not get it. The S is NOT suppose to replace a stripped out factory tuned raced bred Integra Type R. It's natural to compare the two but the objectives in mind from Honda were totally different for both cars.

I think what he meant by 'lack of focus' is that the car is less of a drivers car than the Type-R. It's compromises are more towards comfort than all out driving pleasure.
It really doesnt matter folks....the average buyer isnt going to know what a Type-R is. Only what the salesman tells them. Its not even made anymore so its not like Acura is stealing sales for Type-R's...
The only people who really care about specs are people like us. And we know what's true and what's not. There is no point in trying to interfere with a salesman trying to sell a Type-S, its not like he can turn around and sell the consumer a Type-R. So relax....when the RSX Type-R comes out....then all you R owners can start to worry hehehee...

I saw a rsx on the road. I pointed it out to my coworker, whos also a big car guy, and he couldn't believe it. "Thats supposed to be a sports car!!!" "It looks like a squished accord" I have to agree.
A good friend from Japan sent me another Best Motoring video. It's all about the Integra (RSX) Type R. The car is awesome. On the track, the back end would drift out at almost every single turn and it required slight steering inputs from the driver. The balance on this car is simply great. I really hope they keep the same suspension setup for the RSX Type R if we'll get it here. Oh one more thing, after the shift to 2nd gear, the revs never dropped below 7000 RPM on the whole track! Talk about close gearing and effective use of top end power. (The driver was shifting at an indicated 8.7K, a little into the red).
No offense, but all these threads saying "how dare so and so say the RSX is better" are just proving your insecurity. If you know your ITR is so much better then it shouldn't bother you...

Unfortunately, this will only lead to more confusion. Insecurity maybe, or more like frustration.

I agree....and disagree
I don't think we should even begin considering the RSX Type S vs. the ITR, it may have more power, may even kick the ITR's butt in the 1/4. Let's keep the distinction that the ITR is a race-prepped car, unlike the yuppie RSX-S. If anything, we should seriously judge a comparision b/w the ITR and RSX-R.
Cheers

The RSX is a very nice car. However, at an autox I would not be more concerned about an RSX than the regular Prelude guys who I'm currently running in GS with. The extra torque of the Prelude will make up for the RSX's weight advantage making them run very competitively against each other. Right now, rwd and turbo awd cars are more of a threat to the ITR in autox. The WRX, S4, awd DSMs or rwd BMWs, are the real challenge at this point.
If you really wanted to get the word out that the type S is hype, simply put a press release out with your "opinion" across businesswire.com
It would get to everyone from CNN to your local paper.
Cost? About $199.00
You would get coverage though thats for sure.

Personally, I didn't want to like the RSX that much -- since I'm so vested in my integ. But I have to tell you, the RSX is indeed a step in the evolution of the integra. After seeing it in person, it's a better quality car than the old integ; as it should be. Honda has done their job, IMHO.
As far as the G4 Type S vs. G3 Type R debate, LSD will make the difference in autocross. But if you think a stock Type S will give you fits on the street, wait until Type S owners start modding with JDM R parts. If you're concerned G3 driver with only bolt-ons, you'd better start thinking about some cams...

Not being funny but so what if an rsx-r is faster/better than our type r's?
It's a newer car, and has the benifit of taking into account all the experience honda/acura have gained from the type r. Of course it's going to be better, if honda are doing their job. Nobody should feel threatened by it because the type r is still a totally unique sports car and has an untouchable if not legendary reputation within the right circles.
I say who cares what the rsx-r is like, i don't. I love my Integra and that's all their is to it!

The RSX-S ***** on the GS-R flat-out. The GS-R might feel a little edgier, but gets outperformed in every way by the Type-S. I have driven it and it is a pretty damn good car. It is very tight, almost like a BMW. Let's face it, most salesman are total morons and believe every bit of hype fed to them by their manager. I always wanted to go to my local Acura dealership and apply for a job and see how I compared to those morons. The Subaru place next door wants me though.
RSX-S and GSR are not in the same class. They are comparing it to the R becuase they are more similar in performance. I don't get the "compare it to a GSR" thing.
With the 6 SPEED tranny, YES the RSX-S is about as quick as an R. Shorter gearing makes better use of the power. Why don't people get that?

Ofcourse, the RSX-S is better than the GS-R, but it's still a better comparison. The ITR is a street-legal track monster. As the author mentioned, the RSX-S is much more refined and such when compared to the ITR. This can somewhat be said about the GS-R when compared to the ITR. I'd be interested to see if Honda brings out an RSX-R complete with the full Type-R treatment (motor, brakes, chassis reinforcement, removal of excess weight, etc.). Then, we could do a fair comparison.
