Should it cost extra to mount and balance aftermarket wheels?

I took my K1's to a local Tire/Alignment shop and the kid that works there helped me take the rims out of my hatch (I had the 13" steelies on) and also the new Potenza's that were going on the rims. He then quoted me $12/tire so $44. I figured they'd tack something on for disposing of 2 tires (I'm keeping 2) so basically I figured no more than $55 total.
But then as I'm walking out the owner comes running out and says, "Ah, these are aftermarket wheels they cost more." When I asked why he said something stupid like, 'Ah, there's more involved in balancing the weights.' Anyway, it sounded like he was talking out of his ***, plus he was a dick. There's no way in hell I'm taking my car for an alignment there like I was planning.
Anyway, he said $20 per tire so now I'm looking at possibly $95 total including disposal cost.
Is this b.s.? It seems odd that the young kid (17 or 18yrs old) wouldn't see my K1's and say "Oh, aftermarket costs more". Maybe he's new, who knows, but it reeks of b.s.

Usually shops charge more, because if anything happens to the wheels, they have a little bit extra money to play around with. But $20 a wheel, tell him to go **** him self. Really? I mount 205/40/17's with no problem and I balance them like any other wheel. **** them and go somewhere else.
I think it cost me $15-$18 to have the Kumho taken off one Rota and put onto a new Rota. Which is a rip. But then again they might have had to add new weights and all that. I'm not really sure what goes into doing that so I don't want to judge them first.
hey my man, I work at a tire shop. There's really no difference between doing tires on aftermarket rims and steelies.
The only difference that there is (and only if you ask for it) is if you have them dynamic balance them (I believe thats what its called?? Its been awhile!!) but what they do there is that they balance it so that the wheels weights are just on the rear and none on the front of the rim. But it shouldnt cost any more than normal balancing. The only thing that I could see costing more is if you got those stick on wheel weights but not enough to drive the price up that much. Like everyone else said go somewhere else.
From my experience, average cost to mount is $4 and to balance is $7. I've always paid that price (at about 6 different shops), and find it reasonable.

yes they had to use new balance weights. most tires are not perfectly balanced from the factory (occasionally you'll get one that doesn't need balance weights).

Well, I just got them back, it was $15/tire, $65 after tax.
I'm just releived it wasn't $20/tire.
Needless to say, I will take my business elsewhere
