Default question about weight reduction? fifth gen lude.

Ok how much weight would need to be reduced to shave a half second off 1/4. I know I didnt give good specifics. Ballpark area please. Thanks,

you would have to strip the car down to bare metal....well the interior anyway, remove the lining in the trunk, spare, jack, remove PS, A/C, cruise control, etc, etc,

i dont even know if you can remove 500lbs. from a 5th gen.....

if you want to shave a second off your 1/4 time...get nitrous or go turbo

Hmm... seats and all of the interior(walls, ceiling, floor, dash, doors, EVERYTHING), that will probably take out at least 200 pounds. Then you can get Regamaster Evo's or some such wheel package, that should shed nearly 40 more pounds (of rotating mass too!), lightened flywheel, gut the trunk, another 50 pounds, plus get rid of the components you mentioned...another 50 pounds? it would start to get past 300 lbs of weight loss.

What about removing the exhaust and just having a straight pipe? I think I've heard of that. That probably drops a lot of weight too. Maybe 40 pounds?

Get rid of the sunroof... (see my earlier post, there's a CF one out that will save like 20-40 lbs).

let's see... remove the driver's and passenger's windows, replace them with netting...

um

can't think of anything else.

stripping the interior loses its dailyt driver fun though....

rotating mass adds up quickly.

get rid of the backseat, trunk lining, spare tire, and jack, and you'll probably shave off 1/10th.

You'll get more effective weight loss by replacing your wheels and flywheel. Stock wheels are like 18-19 lbs each and the flywheel is something like 20-22 lbs.

All of that is rotating mass. Get those down by 50% and you'll probably see a much stronger effect than changing your hood etc.

It gets a lot louder in the cabin, but removing everything from the front seats back (sans all the paneling) is about ~ 30 something lbs. and takes about 10 minutes to do. Not a bad trade off, another thing (I'd suggest) is a lightweight battery; easily a 30 lbs weight loss at the front, and makes the front end a bit "crisper" equaling slightly better turn in, but that's moot for drag racers. PS- in that pic the back seats are still in, but they've since been removed... I'll try and find a pic.
