Scam, or Legit? $5,000 nonrefundable finder's fee.
http://www.luxurymotors.com/
I was here yesterday, since I decided to myself I'd settle for a BMW 328i instead of an R. I was looking around, and saw they had some pretty rare cars. So, I asked the guy if he ever gets any Integra Type R's. He said they get them on special order sometimes. So, I waslike "OK, how would I order one?" And he's like "It's a $5,000 down, and we'll get it."
I asked him how in the world he would get a car that is so rare. He then got all offensive, like I was challanging the size of his manhood. He's like "We have a 2002 infinity, before the dealerships have them. right over there (points)." And he went on to list me all these cars they have got in the past that I've never heard of.
But the problem is, in order to place an order, it's $5,000 cash, nonrefundable. I'm REALLY worried about this. I mean, I want an R really bad. I'm debating going back and giving him 5 grand... but there is something about the whole nonrefundable thing that REALLY gets to me. What if the R they get is a POS, I'm out 5 grand... *sigh*
What do you guys think?

Oh, the $5,000 goes towards the price of the car when they actually get it. I'm worried because the dealership kind of gave me the impression it was kind of a sleazy place. They were getting their parking lot resurfaced and were moving all their cars parking them in people's driveways behind the dealership and stuff...
It probably didn't help that I had the stereotypical gold wearing hairy chested used car salesman either

Call the acura dealership in Toronto. Erin Mills Acura.
They have like 10 ITR on the lot unsold.
Brand new.
You'll have to pay a bit more to get it across the border into the states but if you want one bad enough you can have one brand new.

Eh, I really really want a new one. Or one with MINIMAL miles. I talked to the guy again today. Here is how it goes:
A contract is signed for the $5k which guarantees an Acura Integra Type R in good to excellent condition. At that time, average prices of the car is discussed and agreed upon. Then the car comes, and you pay off the remaining balance.
How much do car finder fees usually cost?

Sounds like a scam to me. Nonrefundable??? So what happens if he can't find one, he keeps the money? Just go to autotrader.com You may have to drive a few hundred miles to get one, but so what.

Oh.. On the news I remember one excellent tip. If you ever put a deposit on a car. Always put it on credit card. That way you can always go back to the credit card company and have them fight for your money back.
Well, see George, that's exactly it. This dealership has been around as long as I can remember. (It's really one of the only places I know of where you can find some of the expensive cars they have there.) So, I don't know. We'll see what happens I guess. I was actually just kind of messing around when I went in there... but they make getting an ITR seem a lot more feasible. Maybe.
But, used car salesmen ARE used car salesmen *sigh*
Thanks for all the advice though

I'm not so worried about putting up the cash for this deal as I am that they are going to screw you on the price when they get it...
The $5K is going to go to the purchase price of the vehicle, not a fee for finding it (if that were the case, I'd be in business doing that too!)
either way, what if you aren't happy with what they find you, or they try and charge you too much? If it's not new, are they going to verify the warranty/condition through Acura?
Lots of questions that they MAY NOT have the answers too...If you do decide, just be careful and ask a lot of questions....
As always, PUT IT ON YOUR CREDIT CAR IF YOU DO IT!!! Save yourself the trouble...If they accept it (and you have it) use either American Express or Discover as you will have NO PROBLEM with them disputing it...some banks w/ Visa/MC don't do it as easily (I know from experience, trust me on this one)
Hope this helps to make a decision....
