Default What is the best year CRX to buy?

I'm looking in on getting a CRX and putting a B20 in. I like the Second generation look but I don't know which year is the best to get. Any help?

90 and 91 si has rear disc brakes and better looking tail lights in my opinion.

'88 CRX Si has a Type R rear suspension, making it more tailhappy. I've swung the tail out on occasion taking lefthand turns too hard at intersections (really fun, actually). However, this makes stuff like rear disc swaps harder, because you have to replace the lower trailing arm with a different component.

The '88 CRXs are also the lightest models. '90, '91 model years are the heaviest. However, the '88 CRX Si's also had different camshaft timing, so they only made 102 hp or something compared to the standard 108.

Getting an HF might be the lightest model, but that's because it lacks things like a swaybar or a decent exhaust system. In my opinion, the Si is the only model worth getting. A sunroof is worth that much to me. The HFs also require more work to do a swap, as they use a different axle setup than the DX and Si - I believe you have to replace the spindles with a Si setup to accomodate the axles.

I hope that mess of information helped a little.

88"s is the lightest. Shadow .. I've done the rear disk swaps on my 88 dx (used 93 teg trailingarms). now all
that needs to be done is the front 10" disks.

91 si but im prejudice cuz thats what i got, think about it front and rear disc brakes and the wiring will be much easier for swaps.

The Disc brakes I beleive is not a big factor becausce I talk to several ITA racers and the ones that did the conversion said that for the effort of doing and cost it wasn't worth it. Plus with r-compond tires the rear won't step out it will just rotate ohhh sooo nice. I use my 88 for autocross and it's a blast.

well i would say the 91 because of rear discs but the 88 's were lighter. i just bought an 88 crx si for 300 and i am going to fix it up for my daily driver. i bought it wrecked.

Well, Si and HF both are the easiest to wire up for the swap since they both have MPFI and not the stupid dual point crap like I have.

The '88 HF is the lightest one, but like Raeneshadow said, your missing a lot of goodies with it. It all depends what your plans are for the car.

Side note, at the track where I ran the ultra impressive time below , I weighed in at 2,050 with the rear stripped (no back seats, or spare). I was at 2,450 like that in the R!! So with the about 180 whp (175/125 in the R), I will be mid 13's all day long!! And if I get the 200+ I am shooting for, then I will be in the 12's.
