rebuilt engine...car wont start!
okay so we just finished our engine rebuild, just a stock b18b in a 95 ls. anyway when we try and start it up it cranks but wont start...it seems to crank a little slowly too. we checked the distributor...seems okay, check all connections...all there...checked battery...was at around 11omhs (i think) which should be enough power to start the car. we were thinking maybe the timing was off? gonna pull the head apart again tomorrow and check the cams and cam gears, any other suggestions?
I would definatly check cam timing. Make sure the belt is not off any teeth and the tensioners is working CORRECTLY. My new motor got a used tensioner, and bam, killed every intake valve.
Also pull your plugs, see for oil or fuel. Do a compression check, check all harness plugs, CHECK ALL GROUNDS, and make sure your distributer is NOT 180 degrees off.
Gluck

UPDATE:
okay so we got a chance to work on it today and the cams/gears were off and everything is now at TDC, its an auto so nothing to do w/clutch. plugs arefine...it actually seems like it starts to turnover but never catches. were stumpted right now. we even tried jumping it to get more power but no dice. if anyone lives in the NW suburbs that would be willing to help that would be appeciated! (were located in des plaines/mt prospect area) any more suggestions?!?!

oh yea one more thing. on the passanger side axle we think that the ball joint is busted by the LCA cause when we try and put the castle nut back on it spins w/the nut...how do i go about getting that fix/replaced?
and on the drivers side we cant get the LCA to line up w/the ball joint bolt anymore...it seems like the rotor isnt in as far as it can go, theyre maybe 2 inches apart. the axle is in the trans all the way...there is a section in the middle of the axle (not sure what its called) but i dont think its in all the way. any idea/opinions?

what do you mean by 180 degrees off? cant it only go on in one direction? we even tried loosening the distrubuter while we were trying to strart it to find the right position...still no dice.
i dont think you see what im saying. Have you ever taken the distibuter off? You can spin the rotor that fits in the end of the cam. even though its offset, you can still install it wrong
ohhh, i thought you were talking about mounting it onto the head. well when we rebuilt the engine we never took the distributer apart, is it possible for it to have gotten turned 180 degrees?
well the plugs and wires worked before we tore the engine apart...soemoene else suggested a noid tester but we'd have to get a hold of one. any other way to be sure?
thx for the fast replys btw dude
ready to kick the **** out of this car :/

to check spark, pull one wire out at a time, insert a screw driver inside the wire plug, lay on the radiator support for ground about 1-2mm away, crank the motor and have a friend tell you if there is a spark coming out. Do for each cylinder

you didnt but we made sure all the grounds were set, we'll also check for spark too. is the spark going to come from the plug or the wire?
