AC Compressor Problems - 92 Accord
My air conditioner needs to be recharged with freon but I have noticed a problem - the AC compressor does not come on when I switch the AC on unless I apply a +12V to the compressor clutch wire, in which case the compressor runs until I switch the AC off, but will not come on again unless I apply the +12V to the clutch wire again. Is there some sort of safeguard that prevents the compressor from running when there is no freon in the system? Or is it more likely that I have a short somewhere in my wiring?

Yes - I believe there is a safety switch if you have no freon. If you have no freon, chances are you don't have the oil in the system either, so the switch prevents you from running the compressor without out.
