Dyno results...my slow 455 car is now tuned...(56k friendly charts included)
Okay here are the my dyno charts...finally. I originally baselined my car two years ago, then returned to the dyno yesterday to get it tuned since I won't be modding anymore for the next couple years. All of the runs were performed on the same dyno, and the temperature was very similar (79 degrees on the original baseline and 76 degrees yesterday). I've been told by the tuner that the dyno tends to overcorrect and give lower readings on colder days, and since the lower temperature occured on the most recent trip I feel confident comparing the runs.
There seem to be bigger than usual torque gains, which is great because that's more useful on track than a couple of peak whp anyway. I think that the 4-2-1 header really helped out my midrange (by 'midrange' I mean 5.5k to 7.5k
). According to the guy that tuned my car, if I ditched the cat and exhaust and ran a straight pipe w/ resonator for track days, I could gain another 5-7 whp throughout the RPM band. Too bad I vowed to stop using my credit card as of yesterday...
Relevant specs & mods:
2001 ITR
30,000 miles and change
Chevron 5w-30 dinosaur oil
No power steering or A/C
Mugen intake
Mugen 4-2-1 header (JDM-spec)
2.5" Carsound cat
Mugen twinloop exhaust (JDM-spec)
Comptech 7 lb. flywheel
NGK copper spark plugs (not sure if these actually make more power than stock)
Hondata S100 tuned by Lawrence at Dynospot Racing
Onto the charts:
Peak gains of 18 whp @ 7800 RPMs and 25 lbs/trq @ 6000 RPMs:

(notice that peak torque is now reached at 6,000 RPMs versus 7,500 RPMs on a stock ITR...the 4-2-1 is nice.
)
Maximum gains of 32 whp and 30 lbs/trq @ 5800 RPMs:

Before and after tuning (VTEC lowered to 4800 RPMs, air/fuel ratio tuned from 3k RPMs to redline, and other minor adjustments made via Hondata S100):

An overview...stock vs. untuned vs. tuned:

If you ever need to get your car tuned, make a day trip to San Jose and talk with Lawrence at Dynospot Racing (www.dynospot.com)....he knows Honda motors very well.

You need to take out your power steering, not the A/C... A/C only drains power when it is turned on.

just take the ac belt off...
another pulley the crank does not have to pull. put pulley back on when u want ac.
it's prolly a b*tch to install..but hey for more hp...

If I'm not mistaken thats what his baseline run is.
Good gains from your baseline.

Read before you post. He has a good number of mods to make that 177. Great job Bob! I hope Lawrence can help me out with my car as well. Hondata is going to be my next buy.

Hey that's 178 to you! (or 177.99 if you want to nit-pick!
) I'm sure Lawrence can help you out...you should talk to him and see what he says, but I think he would recommend getting rid of the VAFC in favor of a Hondata.

nice bob. You don't need anymore mods.. You already lap most people at the events (including me ehehehe). Nice dyno nonetheless.

It was sort of a step by step process over the last two years....but each mod has seemed to make a difference, and obviously overall everything works quite well together. Now that my car is tuned, I do notice the extra torque gains and the car feels great.
