Default Windsheild removal WITHOUT cracking?

Hey guys, I'va got a 89 dx parts civic with a good windsheild and am considering the purchase of a 90 cx with a cracked winsheild.

I would like to swap the windsheilds. I know this is extremely difficult to accomplis without braking the donor windsheild. Does anyone have any experience with this ....any clues? I dont care if it takes 4 hours to take out....its 250$ saved

Thanks,

Pierre

I removed one before and it wasn't easy. What I had to get was piano wire. I removed all the molding on the car with the windshield and made as much room around the dash a possible. THen you slip the piano wire through the windshield gasket and get 2 sticks or wrenches and wrap the piano wire around it and start pulling to cut through the gasket. It isn't easy but it won't take that long to get it loose. It took me 30 minutes.

And you didnt crack it?

I was told that it was damn neer impossible to remove it without braking it.

I hadnt thought of piano wire....how do you attach it after that?

No it didn't crack, it was just a pain on the ***. The professional guys have a wire that heats up and some wedges that makes it much easier. Are you saying reinstall the windshield? I didn't do that, the one I pulled i sold. I think all you need to reattach it is to have both surfaces clean and some of that windshield urethane. As far as how much to apply and where to position the windshield, I have no idea. I have seen it done and it didn't look hard. Here's a link I found doing a quick google search.

i did exactly the same thing except that I got the piano wire heated by a torch, and sliding it up and down in the windsheild gasket. took me about 20 minute with a friend.
