post pics of diy paint jobs!!!
i just learned how to do this after reading one of the car mags out now, and it seems easy, im gonna paint it myself soon i think. If you painted your own car, post a picture of it, i wanna see ,thanks.
uhm... dont think its easy. it will look like crap. mine looks alright, and the person knew what they were doing. i guess take your time, and good luck. check out my thread for pics of how it turned out. if i showed you a close up you'd cringe.
yours looks like it came out pretty good, did a friend do it? i have a acusprayer, costs about 2grand, way better than most paint shop sprayers , its for painting houses and stuff but they sell a "painting cars" adapter that im getting soon.
went from this:
the car was side swiped
that fender was never replaced either
spoiler was ripped out and the quaarter panel was screwed up
Spoiler broke off
the only body panel replace was the passenger door this is so we could have something to go by, both fenders and the rear quarter panel were not replaced
and here it is now
total cost with fixing the damage and DIY paint job was $450 canadian

car started black, had some dents and scratches in it...
then decided to shave it all after someone backed into me and I decided to try something different and see how it would turn out with insurance money......
then i sprayed it CW w/ gold pearl....

now the car is back in primer right now and the body kit is off, ITR front is off and i'm redoing all the body work, and spraying it black agian...

yeah i got hyped after reading the cover. bought the mag and now i want to jump into painting my car. but maybe i'll just do my own preping. allow someone else to do the paint.... i dunno
it said you could rent out a booth and blah blah. but i don't know about that. i think paint shops would be a little insulted. then they would prolly charge you a lot.

Here's a link to more of an explanation of what I did
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=524691
All of these pics are before wetsanding and buffing, which the car needed little of.
If I had to do it over I wouldn't bother. Tooo much work and if you run into any problems it can get expensive.
There are more pics on my site to.

ahhhh...
its a cool color, lots of compliments, but its just an odd color that gets old real quick. I really considered painting it agian just because i have never seen it on another car and it seemed original, but i am sick of messing with body work and etc... so i want to paint it a color that i wont be sick of 2 years from now. plus if I paint it black i can paint it in peices and not worry about it matching. if i **** somehting up it will be easy to repaint w.o having to blend. Pearls are a bitch to match.
As far as the job overall, its more or less patience. A good painter consist of being able to fix your mistakes and having lots of patience for the prep work.
The actual painting part is not to hard as long as you stick to an easy color. Different colors can be harder to spray, like silvers becuase they stripe real easy.
pearls and metallics are hard beacuse the metallics will sink if sprayed to wet. solid colors are going to be easy, just make sure you have full coverage.
the prep-work is going to be were your paint work will stand out. take your time make sure you wet sand all the texture out of the paint, don't leave any shiny spots. take your time taping the car and take any parts you can off. Dont just tape **** up, try to get your car torn down as far as you can withoug taping anything up.
if you have any other q's i will be happy to answer

i havent painted a whole car yet.
but i do paint a lot of small things, like grills and mirrors.
i had to say, i was very impressed with the results.
all idid was get the paint from the dealer, that come sin a aerosol can.
sanded, primered, sanded,
cleaned it with 50/50 isopropyl and water...
then sprayed it with base color, wet sanded, then sprayed color full on.
let it dry, wet sanded again cuz of the dust in my garage.
then immediately after cleaning off again...cleared it.
since i have silver...the swirl marks arent visible,.
so all i did was use 2000 grit, and wetsanded all the orange peel. and hand buffed it with 3m rubbing compound....
came out immaculate.
but you must leave a period for curing...you can use a hairdryer to help cure it after it initally dries to the touch.
on dark colors, its harder, because swirl marks become visible...
i did my brothers grill in black...the same way i did mine. and you can see the swirl marks fromt he wetsanding...
but we had to buff even more and use scratch/swirl remover as well.
but there are more steps to dark colors...including higher grit wetsanding, and a combonation of different buffing compounds...
i want to paint my own car as well....buit i dont have the space, or the equipment to do it.

You can do it in a normal house garage. Just gotta spray the ground with water. All my stuff i painted came out pretty good.

Actually there wasnt too many particles in it. I also never said i painted a whole car before...just pieces of one. After wetsanding and buffing it out, it came out great.

Ya I don't think the paint booth was that important. Any imperfections in my stuff was because of particles in the air or anything. The paint dries to fast for anything to get into it and you can sand and buff anything out anyway.
I wouldn't do it again because of the work it takes someone with no experience to get the bodywork perfect. The actual painting isn't that big of a deal, but the sanding and buff work needed afterwards will be more than if a pro did it.

Wow...sounds really risky. I do everything on my car myself, except body work. The way I see it, it takes too many tools and too much experience to do well, and it's too easy to screw up and not be easily fixable.
