Default HELP: tyre Choice

Hey Guys just need some help with tyres (not tires =P i live in australia)

I have a DC2R and im currently running the standard 15" enkeis (same as JDM i think)

and i bought the car a month ago and it has falken azenis semi slicks on it .. 205/50/15

and its time to get some new tyres..whats the tyres that u guys think is the best?
i was thinking
either Bridgesone SO3s, Dunlpp FM901s, or Toyo Proxes T1-S

and i was wondering if i should go back down to 195s , as opposed to continue using 205s
what would be the pros/cons?

any thoughts/comments ?
thanx guys

search... yields lots of choices.

welcome to the board.

quick rundown:

205's will have a larger contact patch than a 195, but will weigh more.

195's have a lesser contact patch, but do not weigh as much.

if those 3 are the ones you are choosing between, most people on this board will probably say S03's.

yeah SO3s are the one most people have told me to use. but ive heard that u can chew through these tyres in about 6 months ..

hmm also about 195 vs 205
which would yield better handling/ response ?

S-03's are great, but pricey - bang for buck, go with Azenis.

Yup.

I would look into Azenis again or consider Yokohama ES100. THere is also the Kumho MX which is well beyong the Kumho 712.

Both are cheaper than the S03 and as good IMO. I always usa 205/50/15.

Nope. 205 will have a wider contact patch (side to side) and 195 will have a narrower contact patch. However, although the shape is different, the depth (front to back) of the contact patch will change so that the size is exactly the same.

The size of the contact patch is a function only of the weight of the car and the pressure in the tires. If you have a 2640 pound car with tires pumped up to 33 pounds per square inch, the total size of the four contact patches will equal 80 square inches - regardless of whether you're using skinny tires with tread 175 mm wide, or steamrollers 275 mm wide.
