need help diagnoising tranny problem
ok went to the track tonight and on the last run I made the tranny ground 2,3,4 shifts(It ground gears every now and again before but never like that) but it went into gear. the car still goes into gear but chatters terribly pulling out and match rev downshifts? could it be an axle? will the ITR LSD let it drive on a broken axle? clutch maybe? or did something in the tranny **** the bed?
If the gears are grinding I would say synchros for sure. IS it amking any kind of noises one it is in gear?More info on the probelm will help with a better diagnosis. Thanks- Jason
TO bearing was making some noise but it has been for awhile now. clutch was slipping slightly when the car was cold......tranny has been bad for alittle too....I guess we will see
my friend said that the tranny might be grinding cause the TO bearing is bad and the chatter maybe from a spring on the disc may have broken. I am hoping for a clutch disc rather than a rebuild on the tranny.....first thing I am goin to do is drain the fluid and see if peices of metal come out
If you are grinding all the gears, the problem may be your clutch is going out. Does the car go into gear fine when the car is off? If so, that is usually an indication of a bad clutch or clutch associated problem. If not, try changing fluid, and if that doesn't work, its most likely synchros.

yup shifts fine with no/low load (IE- car off or just daily driving shifts) just on down shifts and pulling out it is chattering.....most people I have talked to seem to think it is a clutch problem.
I agree. I've broken three stock pressure plates, but my clutch disks have always been fine. The pressure plate is definitely a weak spot. I had one only last 30000kms from a couple lapping days. You might want to look into upgrading at least the pressure plate, especially if you're going to be hard on it. I've been using a Clutchmasters Stage 3 for 80000kms so far with no problems at all.

Just so you know, there is a fairly large magnet in the tranny casing to catch metal particles.. so the chance of seeing any metal particles when you drain the fluid is fairly small.

I had a CM stage 3 and it fried. the clutch in the car now is a ACT extreme with street disc with a lot of miles and a lot of launches
