stock 89 crx dx

i am having problems with my daily driver. it is getting harder and harder to start, wft! it cranks fine, but it wont light off. sometimes it take a multiple tries and a couple minutes to start. i have no idea where to start looking. anyone have any ideas? all help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

:: more info ::

- dont think its battery since the lights/radio/etc still come on
- no CEL
- high rpm on cold starts (2500rpm)
- idle rpm fluctuates 1000-2000rpm (intermittently, not all the time)
- funky smells in the cabin (exhaust, oil, etc)

with summer here it might be your main relay

just got done. woohoo!!! the car started up fine right after. then i took it for a spin, shut off the engine then tried to start it back up and it lit off just fine. so far so good. but i gotta see how it works over the course of the next week. THANKS HONDA-TECH

btw, while i was working around the fuse box, i also installed the radio hack piezo headlight buzzer
